I know there are a bunch of rifters currently on a mission, or elsewhere, so obviously if you don't get this message, you don't get it! But Bruce and Solas will also be actively seeking people out.]

There was a rifter who was put in mortal danger due to his shard, yes. [He doesn't give specifics, but...]

I should be able to mitigate or even prevent such danger for anyone else, but it requires physical contact with the shard-bearer.

Yeah, see, the whole lacking details thing is really bothering me, a rifter. 'Put in mortal danger' [yes he's listening, he's not JUST being an ass for kicks] doesn't really give us a good picture.

Since existing here even without a pain hellshard on our hands is pretty much filled with mortal danger.

I assumed this was the kind of information one would rather not have completely public, unless you would like to start the same kind of persecution that mages have had to endure for centuries.

Ah, James. If you recall, from our first meeting, I am able to lessen the damage that a shard can do, to its bearer. I had thought that would be enough, but it turns out I was wrong.

Nothing more invasive, I assure you, and it will take only a moment.

As Solas explained above, a Rifter recently was exposed to mortal danger due to the shard that they had. Solas is the only person in the Inquisition who can deal with the shards in anyway, so he wants to... 'dim' the shards, as they were, to safeguard such an incident from happening again.

Unfortunately, yes. But protection will require only a moment, and be completely benign, I assure you.

It is a precautionary measure, for the most part, but it may mean saving many lives.

There is more to explain than I would like, but put simply, the shards may make you more... Tempting. To spirits. A young man was possessed by a corrupted spirit, that came across without a rift.

[ Sam has heard about Solas, and he's heard him on the crystal enough to recognize his voice, but he's never met him. While normally he'd be thrilled at the prospect of meeting any elf, especially one so famous as this one, right now he's anything but. The abrupt, mysterious message had been unexpected and frankly terrifying. As much as he dreads having to report to anyone, though, the thought of having to explain any sort of delay and make arrangements for a later meeting is worse.

As is - naturally - the menacing reminder of how dangerous the shard in his hand can be.

Sam gulps as he reaches the base of the tower, and then clears his throat. ]

They're not dangerous by themselves, but there is the potential for it to be if things go wrong. This is a safeguard to prevent events like that from occurring.

Yes. [Only a little weary.] Cassandra will be coming to speak with you, I believe, but one of the Rifters was possessed, and killed. Without a rift being created.

I believe that the shards may serve as - beacons, as it were - to spirits on the other side. Without the full power of the Anchor to hold them back, they may become so enthralled that they pull through the veil themselves.
