SUMMARY: A group of Riftwatch agents were dispatched to assist with the cleansing of Champrovent and ensure the taint doesn't spread beyond the village.

REPORT:
The town was largely beyond salvageable. We set fire to most buildings, paying most attention to what was once the Chantry, as the taint was thickest around the building structure. Fencing along the perimeters of the village was repaired, and signs warning travelers were posted. It will be some time before the area heals itself. The villagers had done what they could before fleeing, so we built a pyre for those few that had not already been burned.

In the course of our work, we discovered a barricaded household with a number of tainted villagers inside, still living. We managed the situation to the best of our ability. Some were able to be saved. Those who were not were burned, with funeral rites as befitted them.

The area will not be safely habitable for some time, and has been marked as such.
NEXT STEPS: None.

The worst country in Thedas—other than Tevinter—

[ A given. ]

STATUS: Ongoing / Complete
SUMMARY: Five agents were sent to drop pamphlets over the Ander camp
REPORT:
It was a lovely mission. The griffons soared. The moon was shining in perfect weather. The pamphlets were released in unison and timed perfectly. It was like poetry in motion. Never has there been a more successful mission.

There were no injuries. There were no attacks. There were no arrows in any body parts. There were no problems. Absolutely no one threw any mudballs. Edgard did especially well. He is a standout agent and should receive commendation.

Also, the griffons were extremely beautiful. They deserve double meals for a week.

NEXT STEPS: It was a clusterfuck, but a successful clusterfuck. The hot goss was delivered and will hopefully do its work.

A question of great importance: who is the most interesting person in Riftwatch?

I am composing a list, which I very easily could make alone. But that is not amusing. So, the winner of the list will of course receive a prize. An extra point will be awarded to a Rifter, quite obviously. Points deducted for, hm, [totally at random here,] let us say.... Wardens. I have nothing against them. Once I admired them! Then I had my sixth birthday, and I grew bored with them.

All suggestions will be considered.

If you signed up for a mini jungle adventure or a research assignment and we gave you some info that contained clues to the jungle's location, please share them here! Everyone else is also welcome to participate and try to sort out where they are and what to do about it.

NOTES: this is breaking news

Nevarra is suffering. [Very serious.] It has two rulers.

News is, the Van Markhams felt left out, so they've crowned a king of their own. And they went all the way to Hunter Fell to do it, which, as any good Nevarran will tell you, means they're using the weight of history and tradition and ancient old King Caspar Pentaghast's precedence to make their coddled milksop the most legitimate claim.

The Pentaghasts have dismissed the claim as treasonous theater. A good combination of words. If only it wasn't coming from other nobles. Presumably they're dismissing because they want their Aurelia to go to Hunter Fell to get a crown dropped on her head by the Reverend Mother, or whatever Reverend Mother they bring along to do the job.

In the meantime, let us pray for Nevarra. They got rid of one monarch. Now they're saddled with two too many.

NOTES: There is an OOC post HERE with info and sign-ups for getting handcuffed to somebody.

Over the course of the next two weeks, the Scouting division will be offering classes on basic lock-picking skills. This training is mandatory for all Riftwatch agents. I should hope the reasons are obvious.

[ Not that she's asked the other Division Heads about it, but who would be opposed to this anyway? ]

There will be a number of sessions to suit all schedules, and will have locks suitable for teaching beginners and testing those who are already skilled, so there are no excuses or exceptions for not attending.

Anyone in the Scouting division who doesn't feel they are qualified to assist, or anyone outside of the Scouting division who believes they are competent to help teach, should contact me. If anyone has a set of cuffs or any kind of unusual lock they would be willing to loan us for this exercise, please contact me about that as well.

[ After a pause: ]

I do not need to know their provenance.

More good news, everyone.

[ Already, it doesn't sound like good news. He isn't faking any obnoxious good cheer. Instead it's quiet drawl, 100% subdued sarcasm. ]

We've more or less confirmed that when Hawke and her friends, ah, when they 'killed' Corypheus—

Obviously he wasn't dead. If that part is news, we need to have a talk. But it seems the way he got out of prison while his big, creepy body was dead on the ground was by transferring himself—his soul—into a Warden who was there, and walking out, easy as that.

The Archdemons could do something similar, but not to us. That was the whole point of us. So that's... great...

[ Wearily. But after a moment he steels himself and sounds, if not brighter, at least more brisk. ]

Anyway, if anyone does ever get close enough to kill him, try not to have a Warden with you, I suppose. If you can't help it, you can ask them to laugh afterwards. If they sound too creepy about it, you'll have to kill them too.

DATE FILED: Early Harvestmere
STATUS: Complete
SUMMARY: A team infiltrated the occupied city of Perendale to collect information and made contact with the world's dimmest underground resistance.

REPORT:
As directed— traveled to Perendale by griffon under cover of night. Made contact with a resistance force. They are not capable of mounting an effective counter attack on their own, but they are happy to follow basic direction to set the stage for the future involvement of Riftwatch or her allies.

The city is well-fortified and many of its defenses still stand. The city's citizenry is suffering lightly from rationing and other general hallmarks of an enemy occupation. Criminals not judged noose bound are subject to enslavement and either taken as spoils of war by officials within the city, or sent back to the Tevinter Imperium.

The state of the occupation force has been weakened by a confident position. There are enough proper soldiers to keep the population in hand, though a not insignificant number of replacements for the initial invasion force—now evidently pushed to the front lines—are clerks and quartermasters and magisterial officers and et cetera.

Have amended a rough map of the city marked with the residence of the General-Mayor Gosleus and field offices in the city's administrative districts. The griffons quickly grew unhappy with their quarters. They are keen on their own tower. Suggest two day training outings to break them of the habit.

NEXT STEPS: Utilize the Perendale resistance to help lay the groundwork for future intervention. Recently enslaved citizens selected to work for the officers occupying the city may be a good source of information if contact can be made.
