SUBJECT: Red(cliffe) Oyster Cult
PARTICIPANTS: Laurentius, Andrasteia, & Edgard
CLASSIFICATION: Public, filed with Project Haven & Project Jeshavis
DATE FILED: Now-ish
STATUS: Completed
SUMMARY: A team is dispatched to Redcliffe to verify whether Brother Gideon was acting alone when he attached the Gallows and its residents, or if there may be trouble yet to come.

REPORT:
In having made our way to Redcliffe, we were quickly made to be useful to the residents and Chantry both—being assigned any number of tasks and errands, which made convenient the matter of our investigation and the questions which we were obligated to press. Though no one was entirely pleased to discuss the man in particular (my read was that they are somewhat ashamed and embarassed of their relation to him), we were able to uncover a connection between Brother Gideon and the Order of Fiery Promise.

—(Many thanks for the remote research assistance; these crystals really are very convenient.)

Once we had some notion of the group, a few of the outlying farmers were able to point us in a more helpful direction. I've taken the liberty of copying down a small map on the othr side of this page should anyone wish to locate the abandoned fortress again, though I see little reason to. It seems the Order (such as it is) has abandoned their hold of it. I suspect they've made for the Anderfels, given the recovery of some notes in the Ander language and the map left behind. I can't imagine they will be of continued trouble to the Inq Riftwatch, unless Brother Gideon was passing them information that might somehow be most relevant beyond the Anderfel border. Though if you've (we, I suppose) any allies to be found so far North, one might consider sending word or warning.

Say, should you require anything more.

Faithfully,
Brother N.L. Vesperus

NEXT STEPS: Go poking around the Anderfels in search of a spooky cult!

SUMMARY: Project Haven held an afternoon of Chant readings and service to the needy in Lowtown. Donations were taken, food was distributed, and a foundation was laid for future endeavors to build the relationship between Kirkwall's chantry presence and Riftwatch.

REPORT: Our first attempt at outreach within the city went off without incident, save for a few material donations gone astray via local children. The civilians who came seemed overall to enjoy and appreciate the readings and the food, and one hopes they will look forward to, and support, our next endeavor.

NEXT STEPS: Continuing this project and, hopefully, shifting it into Darktown if resources allow. Ideally, Hightown's attentions can be garnered in terms of donations of supplies and labor.

Project Haven seeks volunteers for weekly outdoor Chantry services in Lowtown and Darktown, with the purpose of encouraging outreach and mingling between Riftwatch and the Kirkwall faithful.

We will need:
Readers able to speak loudly enough to be heard by a crowd. Rifters are especially encouraged for this role, as a gesture of goodwill and visibility.
Food preparers willing to make large quantities of inexpensive food to be distributed to the poor, encouraging attendance.
Collectors of donations to organize the allotment of donated food, clothing, and so forth, and to distribute it according to need.
Security for crowd control in case of the unexpected.

If you would like to contribute in some other way, please write it below or speak with Brother Gideon.

CLASSIFICATION: Public???

STATUS: Ongoing / Complete
SUMMARY: Three agents were sent to Nevarra City in search of magical artifacts stored in the Chantry. As it was in use as an infirmary, they decided to pose as healers and search after dark. They were able to find a working eluvian, though they weren't able to search further and locate anything else before a fire broke out and forced them to evacuate.

REPORT:
After learning that the Chantry was being used as a field hospital, Nikos and I disguised ourselves as healers and Lino posed as our personal guard. The Reverend Mother questioned us briefly, but we were allowed in to make ourselves useful. Lino observed as Nikos and I assisted the Chantry sisters until we had a moment to break away and start searching.

The actual search had mixed results. We did find a working eluvian, but we weren't able to search very thoroughly. While we were trying to decide on a way to smuggle the eluvian out of the Chantry without being seen, a fire broke out. [ some scribbles around this line, as if Derrica rewrote it a few times. ] It was fortunate for us, as the fire disrupted the soldiers patrolling. They ran to try and put the fire out, and we were able to get the eluvian out of the Chantry unseen—I assume anyone who saw us thought we were working on behalf of the Chantry to save the relics and if there were questions, they happened after we were long gone.

As instructed, we traveled with the eluvian to the wine cellar and secured it there. That leg of the journey was uneventful.
NEXT STEPS: Did someone recognize one of these three? Were they followed to the contact's wine cellar? Who knows!

Hello. In case I have not met a number of you, [ It's been a month. He's been— occupied. ] This is Speaker Fabria. I manage Project Haven, which works to maintain good relations with the Chantry, and through it the Inquisition.

There has been some news of late that is— [ concerning? ha ha nah. ] perhaps relevant to some our number. Evidently, a blackhaller in Ferelden agreed to hear charges brought against a Templar by a mage, regarding the former's conduct in Kinloch Hold. In the absence of an active Circle or any other clear process to resolve the complaint, my understanding is that Queen Anora supported the blackhaller's decision, and asserted Fereldan's right to handle disputes that arise within their own borders in this instance.

[ Like mages were citizens or something. Madness. ]

Her Holiness Divine Beatrix has subsequently appointed a Brother and Sister in Val Royeaux to receive and respond to charges brought against either mages or Templars. In the future, any such complaints must be delivered to Val Royeaux by the complaintants in person, so that their identities may be verified.

[ """so that their identities may be verified""" ]

Watchers,

It’s with deep regret that I must formally retract all proposals of marriage, be they for man, or mage; or Miss Fitcher’s card game. To the last I must ask that a gold ring be returned — you may keep the shirt off my back.

[ thranduil: ]

We have returned from our discussion with Divine Beatrix’s Right Hand, Sister Esmeral, and while the full summary of our meeting can be read in the report, there were several important points that ought to be brought to the notice of the whole of Riftwatch.

Firstly is the appointment of Brother Armin, who is our new liaison with the Chantry. He will be stationed in Val Royeaux. The agreement made regarding mages and Rifters — one year previous, nearly to the day, how serendipitous — remains mostly the same.

[ he pauses. he will wait as long as he needs for someone else to take over. ]

[ isaac: ]

No decision on Circles.

[ from the chantry, or from riftwatch. hm. ]

For those just catching up: Last year there was a great fuss about phylacteries — vials of blood, very particular, there’s a library if you’re confused —

The Chantry will honour that bargain. To a point. No one’s making phylacteries for our allies right now, so don’t defect, and you don’t need to trouble yourself. Other bits are under dispute: Divine Beatrix won’t support marriage or inheritance. It’s her further opinion that the collective property of the Circles remains the collective property of the Chantry.

I believe I need to return a pillowcase,

[ ilias: ]

— To the Project Haven office, if you please. [ ahem. ] Some of the concessions we made previously have been softened in turn. Riftwatch members will no longer be required to carry magebane or involve a Templar or Loyalist in mage-related disputes.

[ ... and that's it, that's all the good news on the mage front. ]

The Templar Order is furthermore undergoing a reorganization. We have been told there will be no changes to the previously agreed freedom to obtain lyrium, and former Templars will not be ordered to the Divine's side. However, Her Holiness asks that any who do not wish to return cease to use the Templar name and insignia.

[ thranduil: ]

And the Most Holy will have it written into Chantry Law that Rifters are not demons, and legally equal to mages, provided we continue our cooperative agreement regarding information on our particular talents and how they might aid in the war effort.

[ isaac: ]

Let's all begin shouting at once.
