We’ve received the latest dispatches, including words collected of ranking clergy. You will find a copy of these — and of Brother Jehan’s report from Orlais — within the office. 

I ask your thoughts, and your priorities of each. We need look to the year ahead.

The theological status of Rifters will only gain controversy, as we draw closer to a new Divine. I needn’t state the importance of not aggravating matters within Kirkwall.

The Inquisition has offered the Rifters her protection; our fates are necessarily tied. If you’ve questions regarding them, I encourage you to speak with myself or another member of this project, rather than in public forum.

Addressing the cult in Hunter Fell will require planning, that our presence is not taken for favour. I confess I am much at a loss with it, and welcome your suggestion.

Any manner in which we might assist the Division Heads in soothing local tensions is also of value.

Getting the bad idea out of the way first--would it be of any benefit to invite whoever's leading that cult to meet their objects of worship? Dissuade them from the idea the rifters are some sort of sinless improvement on the rest of us?

Depending on the rifter, that might not take more than a few seconds.

That's what I'm hoping.

Who would we nominate? [This is only half-joking.]

Those who threaten rifters should be met with reprisals. Nothing needlessly severe, just sufficient to make it clear that the rifters are under the protection of the Inquisition, and to place them in harm's way is to mark oneself an enemy if our efforts. Lesser steps might just allow tensions and volatility to escalate.

We cannot be seen to threaten the citizens of Kirkwall, nor to force our will upon them. If any action is pursued, I suggest it be done through existing legal channels, outside Inquisition walls.

And yet we would allow them to subject members of the Inquisition to that same treatment? What reassurance do we have that those governing Kirkwall's legal channels will grant this any priority? What if they uphold those same views that set rifters at risk?

GRAND CLERIC GERTRUDA

I suggest we reach out to the Trevelyans for assistance in navigating the Grand Cleric. They've long held respect within the Chantry, and the Herald binds us both. Do any yet remain within the Inquisition who knew Lady Trevelyan personally?

At worst, we might correspond with those who serve the Inquisition from afar. The Advisors may be able to counsel us on who had positive rapport with Lady Trevelyan, and if they might be able to contribute time and energy from the tasks they are currently assigned. If not, we may be able to appeal to their sentiment - to support a cause to which their own kin was so dedicated.

A zealot like this Grand Cleric won't be swayed by a few mutual acquaintances, all you'll accomplish is her damning the Trevelyan name along with the Inquisition's. If she doesn't already think the Herald was a heretic anyway. Do we know where she stood on that?

No — but we may sway the mutual acquaintances. She's allies, support staff, and others she need call upon. Not all will be so committed to her views. Justinia's death left us chaos; the support of certain of the old guard would aid us in appearing a point of order.

Regardless, I agree that further investigation is necessary. Her Grace's invocation of history might speak as much to ancient foundations, as to our work thus far. I would prefer clarity before we proceed. Would you care to investigate?

Friendly eyes upon the Trevelyans seem wise, in any instance. Perhaps Knight-Enchanter Amsel might contact Skyhold.

RUMOURS FOR SISTER ELODIE

We need begin aggregating information, that it might be passed to our allies in the Sisterhood. There is a line between interesting and scandalous — use your discretion.

Shouldn't these sisters be providing you with information, rather than the reverse?

One who gossips to you will also gossip of you. Better they own tales we've deemed acceptable — and the favour that accompanies their confidence.

What if we set different rumours amongst different Sisters? Trace the path the rumours take, if we are lucky, and follow how the information travels.

Quite. [ she sounds briefly, genuinely approving. don’t get used to it, ] Let us ensure they are not seen to contradict. We’ve Sister Elodie; perhaps the congregants at Skyhold could name their own contacts.

Yourself, Enchanter Ceallach, and Ser Ashlock have family ties to Starkhaven, [ cade does too but we don’t talk about those ] Would you be open to speaking with the local Sisters?

MISCELLANEOUS SUGGESTIONS/ISSUES

While no blood magic was used in its origination — [ ha. ha ha ha. ] — The Forest remains a source of discontent. Harriman spoke of the installation of a new icon; what else have we to work with?

I've been taking time to answer questions about it as I can when I'm up there to tend the hive. I think the icon will go some way to reassuring the calmer folk the forest wasn't intended as insult to injury.

It is the less serene I’ve concern for. The memorial's position ensures guard presence, but they’ve no reason to love the added work — It may be worth arranging a meeting, to see what can be done of their own concerns. The Inquisition must be ready to support them in maintenance of the site.

What's this about the Tranquil--and what can I do to help?

There is evidence the Venatori have been using them to scry. We need recover and cremate any further stores.

Identifying likely sites would be a worthy place to begin. They traveled far south for this purpose; a commitment of resources which speaks to certainty. Perhaps this began closer to the Imperium.

We have the voice of the people whose beloved project was so unfortunately hijacked from them. Do the people wish to see it demolished? Do they wish to preserve some part of it, and clear the rest? Has it grown on them, somehow, despite having no say in its spontaneous creation?

[A muffled "hmph" of amusement before Myr speaks up; grown on them.] There's a little of every sentiment among the folk I've talked to, though I'll confess now I haven't been wholly neutral about the forest's presence myself. [He'd told Sina he would explain it was meant as a gift; he's not ashamed of it.] As I'd told its creator I'd try and explain her intent.
