SUBJECT: Opening Doors
PARTICIPANTS: Aenor Dinadhal, Caric Van Kassel, Ellis, Sabine, Vanadi de Vadarta, Vance Digiorno
CLASSIFICATION: Public
DATE FILED: Drakonis
STATUS: Complete
SUMMARY: Charged with extricating an eluvian from underwater elven ruins in outside of Hossberg and installing it in a safe, discreet place within the city itself undetected, the team managed to get the eluvian out of the water without much trouble but infiltrating the city itself required some more elaborate planning and efforts. To pass through the main gates, the group disguised themselves as a group of clerics and pilgrims escorted by two Wardens, managed to gain entry and install the eluvian in a sewer, then return home through the Crossroads.

REPORT:
There was no trouble removing the eluvian from the ruins. We were able to secure the area and draw it out of the water in the course of a day, then conceal it on a cart for transport into Hossberg.

To avoid scrutiny, most of our number split themselves as disguised clerics and pilgrims. Warden Digiorno and myself posed as their escorts. Between these roles and Caric's efforts, we managed to divert attention from the cart and gain access to the city. Anyone traveling into Hossberg in the future would do well to adopt the same measures and pose as cleric or pilgrim as their knowledge of the Chant allows.

After nightfall, we were able to install the eluvian in a sewer in the north end of the city. I've marked the location on the attached map, to be set into record accurately. It should be possible for people to enter and exit without scrutiny, so long as they are disguised accordingly.

— Warden Ellis
NEXT STEPS: Celebrate the new eluvian installment with champagne and confetti.

Riftwatch!

If one were to be planning to be entering into a marriage, and as a gift to one's fiancée, one was planning to purchase a large and well-trained dog, to guard and otherwise safewatch one's fiancée's large property or estate, which type of dog would be best for such a task?

Of course the mabari is the obvious choice. Yet so Ferelden! The answer to this question will therefore be: not a mabari.

Hello! [ Lowkey cheer, Orlesian accent. ] I'm Bastien, if we haven't met, and if we have—I took over organizing Jeshavis a few months ago. I didn't say before. Mieux vaut tard que jamais.

If you are new, Jeshavis is the project focusing on counterintelligence in the South. [ This is a normal thing for a printer to be in charge of. ] It is named after the Mother of Orlais. And I am Orlesian, and Madame d'Asgard, who has agreed to stay in the office with me and continue lending her expertise less officially—she is Orlesian. Au total, it is a lot of Orlais in a small space. But we care very much about Ferelden, too. Especially since its swamps might be our last bastion someday. We would like to keep it nice and uninvaded for as long as possible.

—you know, I am not sure anyone with this accent has ever said that.

De toute façon. I have two requests.

The first is for anyone who thinks they might be useful to come by and say hello. Even if it is only a vague suspicion that you might be a little useful, maybe, but you aren't sure how. There are spiced nuts and wine for you in the bargain.

And the second: I would love to hear everyone's best Fereldan and Orlesian accents. I am making lists of who can fake it. Native Fereldans and Orlesians—just the one that is foreign to you, s'il vous plaît. And if you are natively Fereldan and Orlesian, don't be be a show-off.

While we're on the subject of change and the inexplicable--

[Flint hardly echoes the lighthearted quality of the Gallows' most recent broadcasts, though that can hardly be much of a surprise. This part should be though:]

We've received word from Orlais that the siege at Ghislain has come to an end.

As you likely know, our allies have been camped there for some time to maintain pressure on what was believed to be a significant Tevinter-Ander force occupying the city. However, it seems that force has successfully contrived to make their escape. Spies recently discovered the city to be manned only be a skeleton force, the bulk of the body having likely slipped away under cover of severe winter weather.

Ordinarily, I might congratulate the success of recapturing Ghislain regardless of the problems inherent to a disappearing army. Unfortunately, [is not so different from a blacksmith weighing a hammer and judging the angle at which best to strike a blow.] In the haste to retake the city, a number of gylph traps were tripped. This has reportedly caused much of the city's destruction. The exact extent of damage and the number of casualties among our allies' forces is presently unconfirmed, but I would advise everyone be prepared for the possibility that they are significant.

As always, change breeds the capacity for more. It is in our best interest to discover where the Tevinter-Ander force has gone, how they achieved their retreat and how they mean to make use of these reinforcements. Expect more work to those ends, and in support of the regions affected by the damage done to the city.

RECIPIENT: all of you
NOTES: sawbones hasn't slept in days, but she does have three dozen hand written pamphlets about the blight and that's basically the same thing.

Right, I don't know how this dream business works, but apparently a number of you didn't bother to bring your good sense with you during it. And since you're all allegedly older than I've given credit for in the past, I'm putting this down to surfacers having regrettably short memories. So I've condensed my extended lecture on the long term effects of Blight into a pamphlet which I will be distributing to all of you for ease of reference. I'm happy to answer any and all questions pertaining to it you may have.

If you can not read, I will be happy to assist you. If you do not wish to receive a pamphlet, too fucking bad. If you attempt to avoid me, I will find you.

Ah--good afternoon.

[ A woman's voice, a good-humored alto, with an Ander accent lining the words like fur in mittens. ]

I have, I think, been welcomed to Riftwatch in my sleep. When I woke today, I didn't expect to pass so many familiar faces in your Gallows. Is that so common? If I am to live a month every night, I might find myself too tired to finish anything in the day.
