NOTES: Research Questionnaire for people that have shiny things on/in their person.

This message is for anyone that has a shard in their hand, their chest, or otherwise on their person; Rifter or Thedosian or otherwise. If you are so fortunate or unfortunate depending upon your view of the shard as to have one I've questions for you in the interest of better understanding that which you have and what it means for your health, the world around you, and how likely it is you might attract demons in your sleep. At my current best estimate the odds are high in on last but I tend to err on assuming the worst and being pleasantly surprised when the world doesn't rain down fire, death, and the undead.

If you would rather speak in person and are in Emprise du Lion- I can be found in my healing tent. If not? I will return to Skyhold at the end of Guardian if you would prefer to wait to speak face to face or am available at all hours on the crystals.

_{[Guy doesn't have a sending crystal of his own, yet. But he'd heard through the grapevine that one of the healers still there in the snowy wasteland was looking for people with glowing shards and people that had come through rifts, and he fit both bills, so after a bit of searching he was able to locate Adelaide's tent. He wasn't sure whether he should wait outside or step in yet though.]}

[ That's a new twist of voice she hasn't heard before. Adelaide pokes her head out of the tent and squints at him- no question of it, he's a rifter. She motions him inside and clears a space on one of few side tables not covered in books or poultices. ]

I am at that. Come in, sit, I've tea if you drink it.

_{[Yeah, he's watching his language, especially around a lady that looks like she has enough to deal with without listening to someone use at least five expletives in one statement. He follows her inside and settles in the cleared space, crossing his legs and putting his hands in his lap.]}

...Are you saying that not only can I do stupid crazy shit with my hand, and not only do I have another dimension kind of sort of in my hand, but I might get sleep demons?! Jesus christ nobody tells me these things!

Och, that's just great. Like having a shard isn't bad enough, now we get to have demons in our sleep?

[He's not visible thanks to being on the crystal, but if the tone of his voice is anything to go by, he's pulling a spectacular face right about now.]

Listen, I'm not too far from you right now. Mind if I come by? Figure it'll be easier if you can take a look at this thing if you need to, anyway.

It is, at current, a theory rather than proven. But it feels prudent to have concerns considering the shards and their connection to the rift, the veil, and in turn the Fade.

[ She's hoping to disprove the theory but- there is no real way to test it. ]

[Ariadne's never formally met Adelaide, but she's spent a lot of time just watching the world go by in Skyhold. It isn't hard to pick out familiar voices. They come to her as naturally as scents. And, in light of her recent conversation with Marcel, Ariadne's curiosity has been piqued about this woman.

She's slow to answer, considering her options carefully. But finally, her gentle, girlish voice comes through the crystal.]

Hello- may I have your name and how long you have been in Thedas, please? I will be taking notes.

[ There is in fact the sound of pen and paper just under her words, low and lilting in their Orlesian accent. ]

[The healing tents are easily found, despite the sea of tents that litter the Emprise. With little of consequence to occupy her, she doesn't hesitate to answer Adelaide's call in person. If nothing else, it will distract her from the old song for a while.

She pauses at the entrance to the tent and feels a flicker of irritation as she does. This tent will not be as occupied as her own had been; she would not walk in on something untoward.]

You have need of shard-bearers? Shall I suffice or shall I seek another to take my place?

[ Weary as she might be- it's said with a great deal of fondness as Adelaide turns from the crystal and her notes to bid her friend to sit. ]

You will more than suffice- please, sit. I have tea if you wish it.

[Kain is usually reluctant to use the crystal, not always having much to say, anyway. But mention of the shards gets his attention. He's not had any real problems with it recently, but when he first arrived it had caused him a lot of concern. He's still concerned. He may not show it, and for the most part tries to ignore its presence. He's direct in his response].

I'm a rifter with one of these shards... what do you want to know?

[ She ticks through the list she has written off to the side, a fresh journal ready for these questions, the answers she might find, and the results to be gathered from said research. ]

[She's only just received her crystal. It's more than a little exciting.

Caution aside, watching it glow as it the woman's voice poured out of it, it was curiosity and marvel that took her a few moments to remember to reply.]

May I have your name and how long you have been in Thedas?

[ Did extended exposure change the way the shard behaved? Did different worlds have different rules for it to react to accordingly?

Too many variables, but she is trying to narrow them down. ]

[Adelaide is a friend of Korrin’s, a fellow councillor but she’s still wary. Everything feels like it’s going wrong just now and so she almost debates not even responding. But they’re all in this together, allegedly, so she should say something and she was one of the very first.]

I'm willing to do this over the sending crystal, I have had some of the connection to the Fade explained to me previously but you are a mage, you will likely know more on the subject.

[If she sounds tired? Well she is, she isn't the bright and dazzled girl awed by ice sculptures today, just someone keeping their head above the water.]

[ Sabine specifically doesn't respond through the crystals -- in fact, it doesn't even occur to her to do so -- and she hangs back and allows a little time to pass before she approaches Adelaide's tent. Hooded against the cold, woollen skirts collecting damp and ice at their hems, physical discretion is as much practicality as it is wanting to arrive here unnoticed. She only waits a moment to see if she can detect anyone already inside the tent--

[ Empty save Adelaide bent over her desk, sketching out notations and theories and anything else that might make sense of these shards, these shard-bearers. Finding a point of commonality between the rifters is somewhat impossible- finding one for those that have been struck by shards? Equally so.

At the sound of her tent opening Adelaide points to the chair- the comfortable one- resting across from her space. ]

Please, sit. Would you care for tea?

I have cleared my schedule for the remainder of today and tomorrow for this- whenever you are most comfortable to come? Come.

[A health survey is it? While Walker has been very busy with the recruits and whipping them into shape, he still feels the need to help her in her studies anyway he can. Quietly he ducked into her tent, much more clean looking than he had when they first met, if not tired.]

So...what would you like to know? [His throat cracked slightly from all of the yelling he had been doing up until now.]

...Do you ever not sound as though you've made a ruin of your voice?

[ Not that she has much to pull from but- one would think after some time in the Inquisition he'd have found something help with that. Recalling his trepidation with magic the mundane cure is offered first- a cup of hot tea thickened with honey. ]

( it's taken Ruby a while to get to Skyhold, then a while to get a crystal, and she's been fiddling with it and trying to get it all figured out. you know what was convenient about Storybrooke? Texting. That was convenient. This was like a voice mail and a phone call mixed together, and she's not sure how she feels about it.

Magic meets technology, and ultimately? She kind of misses her brick of a Nokia, because that came with Snake. Well, before iPhones happened. She does miss Angry Birds a little, too.

Ultimately she bails on the crystal idea, but uses the sound of the woman's voice from the crystal to figure out who she's listening for, and then tracks her down based on sound. That's probably creepy, and not something she plans to share right away.

With a bit of a knock at one of the tent posts, Ruby sticks her head into the healing tent. It smells the way so many of these places do, a mix of cleaning herbs and soap, the too sweet smell of corrupted flesh that's actually in the next tent over but still offends her senses, and the sweat of the people who've been here before, as well as the current sole ocupant. She kind of really didn't miss army camps, but, go figure. )

Hi. ( A bright smile, and though Ruby's hands are wrapped in red leather gloves, her fingers curl into her palm self consciously. ) Are, uh... are you the lady who spoke about people with the shards, on the crystal thing?

[ Dried herbs, honey, the dust of books, parchment and ink all layered over lavender oil and soap; the odd note of tea long gone cold weaving around the rest- there isn't anything wholly remarkable. Adelaide blinks at the young woman for a moment as her eyes adjust before she motions for her to come in.

There's a chair and a side table- the rest of the tables and boxes are covered in books and parchment and poultices; reference materials and healing implements. ] I am, yes. Please sit. I've tea if you want any.
