NOTES: Research Questionnaire for people that have shiny things on/in their person.

This message is for anyone that has a shard in their hand, their chest, or otherwise on their person; Rifter or Thedosian or otherwise. If you are so fortunate or unfortunate depending upon your view of the shard as to have one I've questions for you in the interest of better understanding that which you have and what it means for your health, the world around you, and how likely it is you might attract demons in your sleep. At my current best estimate the odds are high in on last but I tend to err on assuming the worst and being pleasantly surprised when the world doesn't rain down fire, death, and the undead.

If you would rather speak in person and are in Emprise du Lion- I can be found in my healing tent. If not? I will return to Skyhold at the end of Guardian if you would prefer to wait to speak face to face or am available at all hours on the crystals.

[While he's generally the sort to go for fruit over cake, he's actually developed a bit of a liking for the honey cakes here. They're sweet without being too sweet, and when an enterprising soul decides to add in a bit of fruit on top, it makes for a very tasty treat - when he can get some, anyway. The fact that Adelaide thinks enough of him to give him one is a good part of the reason that he practically beams a smile at her when she offers it out. The rest is due to the cake, of course, but that's maybe not so much of a surprise here.]

Hey, honey cake! Now that's a sight for sore eyes. Should I...ah, hold off on eating that until we're done, though?

[He's going to sit either way, of course, but given how he's eyeing the cake it might wind up disappearing fairly quickly if he gets the chance to eat before he answers questions. She's invited him, though, so he's at least trying to be somewhat polite so as not to wind up answering questions through a mouthful of crumbs.]

You've likely had a longer day than I. [ She huffs a soft laugh, motioning for him to go ahead and eat. For herself she has her tea and some dried fruit. Not a proper meal by any means but- enough to keep her going while she tackles the strangeness that is these shards and those that have them. ] Eat, rest. My questions can keep for a few minutes.

Och, I don't know about that.

[A different sort of day, perhaps, but they've shared a tent while out in the field before. He hasn't forgotten how much she can fit into a day. And unless he misses his guess she's got a lot more to do yet, so even though he appreciates the chance to eat first, once he settles down he winds up making short work of the cake. The tea he can go slower on, however, and it'll give him something to sip at inbetween questions.]

Mmm, that hit the spot. Adelaide, has anyone told you lately you're the best? I'm ready for those questions, though, if you are.

[ All her day has been spent in the tent, over her notes, the crystal, and her patients. Compared to the rest of her stay in the Emprise- it is positively lazy. Compared to those closing rifts, saving lives? It is no great effort. If anything it is more familiar to her and all the more enjoyable for it; despite the questions she asks. ]

Mmm. Not today, but I shall make a note of it. [ Smirking, she does so. No reason to not. ]

Has your shard caused you much pain since you've arrived?

[She deserves it just for the honey cakes alone, honestly, but he can't quite stop himself from grinning just for a second or two at that smirk. The grin doesn't last for long, however. While he can't say he's all that surprised that's the first question, it does a good job of shifting his mood to a more sober one, because it has hurt in the past - not all the time, but enough that he's noticed.

It's not something he likes to talk about, mostly because there's times where he's too stubborn for his own good. But...for the sake of research, he decides to swallow some of his pride and admit at least some of the truth.]

Aye, well...there's been some, from time to time. Nothing I can't handle, mind.

On a scale of 'an ant has bitten my pinky' to 'Andraste's flaming ass, a bear has bitten off my hand' where would that pain fall?

[ None of the others got something quite so colorful, but none of the others were Jamie whom she has seen and fought alongside since the first batch of strangeness. Someone that's seen her well and seen her low and hasn't changed how he's treated her no matter where she might stand or what's happened with mages in the Inquisition.

It's refreshing. Priceless. If all it costs are a dance and tea now and then, honey cakes when she can spare them in return for his regard? It is a price she'll happily pay. ]

[His mouth twitches a bit at 'Andraste's flaming ass', but he manages to more or less keep a straight face otherwise as he waits for her to finish the question. When he answers, though, he can't quite keep the corners of his mouth from turning up.]

Usually I'd say it's more of a dull sort of ache, but every once in awhile it's 'an Ice Warrior's hit me over the head and I'm just waking up from it' sort of pain. Usually after I use it to close a rift, but the worst of it goes away after a bit. It reacts when it's near rifts, too, though. That's different. It's more a sharp sort of flare then, and that's strong enough that'll it'll wake me up if I'm sleeping.

Considering not much else might...

[ They've shared a tent before, in the mire- they might joke about such things. Couldn't they? They could. The nuances of friendship outside of the Spire are on occasion difficult, but here at least she thinks she might manage well enough. ]

How many rifts have you closed with it?

Aye, I know. That's why I mentioned it.

[They can absolutely joke about that sort of thing, and he's outright grinning at her - at least for a few seconds. Her question isn't meant to be funny, though, and once she asks it, a more serious expression replaces the grin.]

I've only closed the two, at least for now. I was going to see about going to close a third but someone else took a different group out to close that one. I've been thinking I need to see about closing more, though.

Has there been much change in it? The size, the shape, the intensity of pain?

[ Does using it worsen the condition, make things less stable, change a man's ability to dream? She notes all this down dutifully, pausing only to take sips of tea and look to Jamie with a concern that goes beyond the professional. A softness around her eyes, a tightening of her lips.

She does not have so many friends as to see one lost gladly. ]

There's not been any change in the size or shape of it, least not that I've noticed.

[If it was small and subtle, though, he could very well have missed it, and the thought of it gets him to glance down at his hand with a faint frown. It looks the same to him, though, so maybe there's not been much change there at all.]

But...after I've closed rifts with it, I can feel it more. It aches more, for a bit. And there's the tiredness, too, come to think of it. Sort of like what you get when whole lot of work over a day? Only it hits you all at once, and you realize just how tired you really are.
