Ants.

How... large?
sarcophage: (12742706)

[personal profile] sarcophage 2020-05-27 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, at least as long as my hand, nearly as thick as my wrist at the widest bit. I thought they were lovely, as far as ants go, until they helped themselves to our supplies.
okayimin: (hang on gotta lick a rock)

[personal profile] okayimin 2020-05-27 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Now that's interesting... Did you find their nest?
sarcophage: (13529902)

[personal profile] sarcophage 2020-05-28 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
We weren't looking for it.
okayimin: (Randy Dowager new issue.....)

[personal profile] okayimin 2020-05-28 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Ah dust. Granted, I reckon if you had, you would've gotten swarmed. You didn't happen to save one of the bodies, did ya?
sarcophage: (12933528)

[personal profile] sarcophage 2020-05-28 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm. [That might be an affirmative.] Most were left in pieces. Monkeys took the majority of them, left the arses behind. I suppose those aren't the tasty bits. They came quickly, too, even despite—

[the fire]

—the commotion, almost as if they'd been hunting them. Isaac or Valentine might have salvaged some, you'll have to ask them.

[personal profile] aventuriere 2020-05-29 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Salvaged some monkeys or some ant arses?
sarcophage: (12783360)

[personal profile] sarcophage 2020-05-30 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Let's split the difference and call it monkey arses.
aventuriere: (ppzlj 22)

[personal profile] aventuriere 2020-05-30 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I must say that sounds like the worst of both worlds. Are they at least an interesting color? I one saw a monkey in the forest of Rivain that was remarkably orange.
sarcophage: (12742520)

[personal profile] sarcophage 2020-06-02 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
These weren't orange, they were an earthy colour with some white fluffy bits. Unless you mean the back end specifically—I'm afraid I didn't look too hard. They did have a kind of whisker... like a long moustache, actually.
aventuriere: (Default)

[personal profile] aventuriere 2020-06-02 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
A monkey with a mustache? That's almost charming. Was it the curly sort that were in fashion a few years ago?
sarcophage: (13529898)

[personal profile] sarcophage 2020-06-02 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Regrettably, no. Perhaps the men among us should grow some and set an example for them.
forwardmomentum: (but i declined)

[personal profile] forwardmomentum 2020-06-17 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if anyone needs a photographic reference for new wave fashion or a possible cartographical source, I think I've found one. There's a volume in the library with a sketch of a creature that pretty much matches your description. Calls it the "Seer's monkey" -- and it's apparently known to make its natural habitat in the tropical forests of northern Rivain.
sarcophage: (12742706)

[personal profile] sarcophage 2020-06-17 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[Photographic— what? Oh, but the rest of this message—]

Then unless there's another colony yet to be discovered, that could mean we're in northern Rivain. You wonderful man. Have you conferred with anyone else? Compared notes?

[ of fucking course valentine would be involved. ]

Guess I better. Would love to crack in and see if there's anything useful. If nothin's eatin' it, it might be corrosive.
sarcophage: (13028620)

[personal profile] sarcophage 2020-06-02 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Mm, definitely venomous. Not a single buttock was eaten.

[suspicious squint ]

Are you trying to be provocative.
sarcophage: (12902113)

[personal profile] sarcophage 2020-06-06 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Me? Of course not, Sister. I'm stating a fact.
okayimin: (Default)

[personal profile] okayimin 2020-06-07 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Hm.

Well, in any case, ass or not, it may be worth investigating.
assistente: (07)

[personal profile] assistente 2020-05-28 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
["Lovely"]

Oh. Yes. Well, um, that's-- I agree with the Sister, that is interesting. And might, perhaps, prove to be useful, in-- narrowing down, or otherwise specifying your, um, the location of...

Have you, um. Seen any--butterflies?
sarcophage: (12783362)

[personal profile] sarcophage 2020-05-28 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I may have. Is this a question for professional or personal interest?
assistente: (04)

[personal profile] assistente 2020-05-29 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Well. Both, somewhat. Though I would place the professional before the personal, of course. I-- will confess an interest in butterflies. But I had thought... to develop a theory, perhaps, of where you might be. Based on, um. Surroundings. The giant ants might be a clue. And--butterflies.
sarcophage: (12902113)

[personal profile] sarcophage 2020-05-29 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh how precious. Professionalism, though:]

Hmm, there's an idea. There've been a few charming little white ones, if that makes a difference—although they seem common. But I believe I did hear someone else mention a butterfly of some variety.

[He would direct Salvio to the top level below this one, but there seems to be some sort of wall in the way. Alas.]
assistente: (07)

[personal profile] assistente 2020-05-30 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh. Yes. Well-- good. If you observe any, or any further details--I should like to know of it.

It is almost enough to make me.... well, not wish, at all, I would not-- just the chance to see such things. And record them.
sarcophage: (12783361)

[personal profile] sarcophage 2020-06-02 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yes? Well, I've been taking plenty of visual notes—if we ever return, you're welcome to look at them.
