( the voice that comes over the sending crystal has quite a bit of pep, though it may be manufactured pep. either way, the girl sounds energetic. )
Hello Inquisition, and hello especially to all the new Rifters who showed up yesterday! My name is Adalia, and I have a few points of order I wanted to let everyone know about.
First off, you will periodically see a baby dragon out and about in the Gallows! That would be my charge, Charis. Say hello, dear.
( there's a trilling call from the crystal this time, the sound going up and down in pitch — like an imitation of the word "hello" from a creature who can't actually say it. )
Please don't try to kill or otherwise harass him. He isn't a native dragon, I brought him through the rift with me as an egg, and the dragons where I'm from are both intelligent and rather friendly! He'd love to meet you, if you come say hello in good faith, and I promise you will not leave the meeting worse for wear.
Secondly! I have welcome packets for new Rifters I've been working on. They aren't particularly fancy yet, but included is a glossary of terms you need to be familiar with in order to carry on conversation here in Thedas, a map of the world as it is currently understood, and a short introduction to the various factions and politics at play at present. In the future I'll try to do more, but it's only been two months since I got here so this was as much as I could get done when I'm making the things myself. If you would like one, please stop by the Gallows library, look for the lady with curly blonde hair accompanied by a dragon, and simply ask! I will provide.
( a clapping noise, and she sounds even more excited now. )
Lastly, and most excitingly personally, I've figured out how to make a couple of the things I could make in my home here in Thedas! If you have need of a sleep aid, perimeter alerts, or a hangover remedy, I'd be happy to provide, either for money or trade. Feel free to find me in the library or get in touch with me over crystal if you're interested!

Before I say yes, can I ask why you want to see him? Someone else suggested I teach him to fight and I had to verbally kick their ass, I'd rather not have to physically fight you if you try to do the same.

( no matter how weird it sounds. )
And yes , he will grow to be very big. That's part of why I'm selling the things I make now, I need to be able to buy a home for us somewhere when he gets too big for city life.
The perimeter alert is called spark gravel! Basically you line an area 200 feet away from the area you need to defend with it, and if someone steps on it, it sets off with a sound and a light. The sound travels best in enclosed spaces, dungeons and the like, but so long as you have line of sight on the area, the light is visible in the dark no matter what. It's good for travel over long distances when you need a night watch!

I hope that Charis has been adjusting well to Thedas. Have you encountered much trouble toward him, so far?
Ah, wait, where are my manners... Hello to you as well, Charis. I trust that all is well. I'll have to bring you a snack sometime.
no subject
( after all, it's not his fault he's a dragon. it would be awful to know you were hated just for being what you are in a world not even your own, with no understanding of why or how to fix it. )
Oh, here, one moment — Charis dear, hold this and say hello to Kain!
( there's a sound of rustling, a quiet clacking sound, like sharp nails on crystal, and then charis squeaks and chirps into the crystal, telling kain hello, and he's very well thank you, and he would like frozen fish if you have any! not that any of that is intelligible to human ears. )

Is there a place we can talk about the dragon? There are no infant dragons but dragons where I'm from, but more and more I'm realising how difficult a thing that is to explain. Secondly, I can trade meat, pelts or anything you might want smithed but I need to know what you put in whatever you make; there are things I can't have.
[An emphasis on that, to say that it isn't out of simple preference but more and since the rift parted her from her own stash...]

But as far as what I put in these things — well. They're all mostly plant-based, with a bit of alchemy thrown in. I may be able to accommodate allergies and the like, it'd just be a matter of finding substitutes. That could take a while, though. What can't you have?

private;
[Rifter information packets isn't why Araceli made this private however. She'd just rather not do all of this in public but since the dragon is being brought up with the aftermath of the Necropolis likely to be a headache for the forseeable future...]
Have you had the chance to learn the history of the Gallows at all, prior to the Inquisition being given leave to work out of it and it being a Circle of Magi before that? [She's going somewhere but jumping in would be rude, Adalia's cheerful, friendly, and making an offer to help which is far more than could be said for others but it's still a dragon.]
perma-private;
( the rest is a... rather strange non sequitur, but adalia isn't one to get annoyed by such things; instead she considers the question thoughtfully before speaking. )
I know Kirkwall itself is a city built on the backs of slaves. With a name like the Gallows, depending how far back that name stretches the implications are unfortunate to say the least... But I've been focusing on general knowledge rather than local history in my studies, and I can't say with any certainty I know to what you are referring.

( which is to say, adalia will have a talk with him about chewing on boot laces, and will try to impress upon him that they are not for chewing. he's a dragon, though, so who know how he'll take that. )
Oh, spark gravel! You lay it about 200 feet from where you'll be, and when someone steps on it, it goes off. There's a noise, but that's only audible if you're right next to it or if you're somewhere sound carries. The light is what's really helpful, it's visible anywhere you can have line of sight. It's most helpful for camping at night, but I might be able to doctor it for a louder sound if you need that?

private.
and Gwenaëlle is acutely aware that the topic is one that a petty individual might take for an opening to subjects they have done very well in simply pretending never to have spoken of
—but you never know, really, and as much as she appreciates the discretion involved it might be useful to have something and someone that can be dealt with more directly. It's worth asking. She can always regret doing so later. )
What do you know about contraceptive use?
perma-private.
Not too terribly much, to be honest, I've never had occasion to look into it. If you'd like to commission some, I could probably provide, but it'd take a bit of time. I'd have to research pre-written recipes, compounds already in use — I'd need information on what you're allergic to, if anything.
( a pause. )
Or whoever it's for, I guess, I'm not judging, I don't care who needs it, I just don't want to hurt anybody.

So uh - if you can take the pep down by like... three hundred percent, that'd be peachy. [ She shouldn't sound like such a bitch to someone who could help her though. In fairness, she sounds about as great as if she were hungover.
Try again, Chloe. ]
I - um - the - ... It's not a hangover, exactly. It's more like - like - that shit you get when you - Withdrawal. That's the word. Like, the shakes and stuff, do you ... have remedies for things like that?
no subject
Sorry, did you say up the pep? Why, I sure can do that for you! What a dear you are for asking!
( you did this to yourself, lady. adalia is cheerful and peppy and she makes no apologies for that — being happy is better than being sad all the time.
even so, her voice loses its pep and gets more serious as she considers the real question. )
I don't know about withdrawal... I have specific recipes I'm working off of, and I can doctor some of them, but it's a process of trial and error I wouldn't want to try on something like that. I might... hmm.
( some rustling as adalia brings out her book and flis to the correct page. )
I have a recipe for a ain reliever I haven't tried yet. I don't know how much it would help, there's nothing on it except the title. Other than that, the sleep aid works for eight hours of uninterrupted rest. You could sleep through the worst of it, as much as possible?
