Hello Inquisition, and hello especially to all the new Rifters who showed up yesterday! My name is Adalia, and I have a few points of order I wanted to let everyone know about.

First off, you will periodically see a baby dragon out and about in the Gallows! That would be my charge, Charis. Say hello, dear.

( there's a trilling call from the crystal this time, the sound going up and down in pitch — like an imitation of the word "hello" from a creature who can't actually say it. )

Please don't try to kill or otherwise harass him. He isn't a native dragon, I brought him through the rift with me as an egg, and the dragons where I'm from are both intelligent and rather friendly! He'd love to meet you, if you come say hello in good faith, and I promise you will not leave the meeting worse for wear.

Secondly! I have welcome packets for new Rifters I've been working on. They aren't particularly fancy yet, but included is a glossary of terms you need to be familiar with in order to carry on conversation here in Thedas, a map of the world as it is currently understood, and a short introduction to the various factions and politics at play at present. In the future I'll try to do more, but it's only been two months since I got here so this was as much as I could get done when I'm making the things myself. If you would like one, please stop by the Gallows library, look for the lady with curly blonde hair accompanied by a dragon, and simply ask! I will provide.

( a clapping noise, and she sounds even more excited now. )

Lastly, and most excitingly personally, I've figured out how to make a couple of the things I could make in my home here in Thedas! If you have need of a sleep aid, perimeter alerts, or a hangover remedy, I'd be happy to provide, either for money or trade. Feel free to find me in the library or get in touch with me over crystal if you're interested!

Um. No, actually, because where I'm from dwarves do dream... But I'm sorry you're having trouble? I can try to doctor the recipe for you, but I'm not sure how much success I'd have, and it would take a bit of trial and error, most likely.

Well, do you know of any natural herbs or compounds here that suppress dreams? It's not impossible to doctor the recipe I already have, but you never know how things will interact, you know? It'd take a while to figure out something that works.

( she really does want to help, minka :( )

No. It's never something I had to worry about, so I don't anything about it.

[ There's the sound of something falling over. Or being kicked. Not to worry; it's just a knapsack of clothes. She's releasing some frustration. ]

It's all Fade bullshit, you know? Maybe you don't. But dwarves don't dream and can't do magic because those things have to do with the Fade and we're immune to it all. But now I got this green Fade shit in me, and it sucks.

I'm sure there's something that can be done about it, there always is. If we can't do something natural, we'll look into supernatural. If dreaming is causing you that much distress, we'll fix it.

[ Minka is silent for a moment. She doesn't really understand what's going on here. Someone is... wanting to... help... her? That makes no sense. ]

Just-- Just like that? You want to keep trying to do something for me? I don't-- umm--

[ Give her a minute. ]

You're not charging me by the hour for this, are you?

( ...oh, man, that's a tone of voice adalia understands all too well. it takes actual effort to keep the sympathy out of her voice, in case it reads as pity, but she manages well enough. )

I'm not charging at all until I have a solution for you. I can't just hear about something that's causing someone such distress and not help with it, but I'm not going to charge for help that hasn't actually been rendered either.

[ This is weird, and Minka can't help but think it's a trick. People don't go out of their way for her. Why would they? But then it occurs to her that maybe this lady really wants this sale, so maybe they should talk numbers? ]

Okay, so say you go to all this trouble and find a way to get the dreams to go away. Do you have an estimate on what you'd charge?

Honestly? I have no idea what would be reasonable here. If you have any special skills you could teach, home recipes for interesting craftables, a trade of your own — any of that would do.

( one of these days adalia is going to have to figure out how to price her shit. )

[ There's a long pause. A pause that probably says a lot. Minka knows nothing. Minka can't do anything. What even is a skill? Can you eat it? ]

[ Maybe, maybe not. It wouldn't be a shock if it's just Minka being stingy with her money because she's never had much of her own before. She's like a mini hoarding dragon. ]

Help with the research i I get stuck — if you can read. Can you read? I'm sorry, I take that as a given because I grew up in a library and it was. If you can't and you'd like to I could teach you...?

No. I didn't realize it was such a big deal before coming here. I thought lots of people couldn't read but it feels like everybody here got schooling. And no. I get by fine without. Name's Minka. Just Minka.

( the idea of leaving someone illiterate to just... stay that way... indefinitely... almost physically pains adalia, but she refrains from pressing the point. )
