Hello Inquisition, and hello especially to all the new Rifters who showed up yesterday! My name is Adalia, and I have a few points of order I wanted to let everyone know about.

First off, you will periodically see a baby dragon out and about in the Gallows! That would be my charge, Charis. Say hello, dear.

( there's a trilling call from the crystal this time, the sound going up and down in pitch — like an imitation of the word "hello" from a creature who can't actually say it. )

Please don't try to kill or otherwise harass him. He isn't a native dragon, I brought him through the rift with me as an egg, and the dragons where I'm from are both intelligent and rather friendly! He'd love to meet you, if you come say hello in good faith, and I promise you will not leave the meeting worse for wear.

Secondly! I have welcome packets for new Rifters I've been working on. They aren't particularly fancy yet, but included is a glossary of terms you need to be familiar with in order to carry on conversation here in Thedas, a map of the world as it is currently understood, and a short introduction to the various factions and politics at play at present. In the future I'll try to do more, but it's only been two months since I got here so this was as much as I could get done when I'm making the things myself. If you would like one, please stop by the Gallows library, look for the lady with curly blonde hair accompanied by a dragon, and simply ask! I will provide.

( a clapping noise, and she sounds even more excited now. )

Lastly, and most excitingly personally, I've figured out how to make a couple of the things I could make in my home here in Thedas! If you have need of a sleep aid, perimeter alerts, or a hangover remedy, I'd be happy to provide, either for money or trade. Feel free to find me in the library or get in touch with me over crystal if you're interested!

Oh man, if you need any help getting the Rifter welcome packet together in the future, I'd love to help. It's something I've been thinking about for awhile, but I wasn't even sure where to start. Way to get it moving.

I'd love the help! I know everything that's confused me, but another set of eyes on it and another Rifter to tell me what could confuse others would be very helpful. And then someone who can help with the hard work of making copies! Writing everything out is... very tedious. So tedious. Oh gods, my wrists hurt.

Yeah, considering we come from such different places, I imagine things are gonna be different. Like I had to get used to 'dragons are real,' which clearly wasn't a thing you had to adjust to.

And tell me about it. Back home, we had machines that could make as many copies as you liked for you, and man, did I take that for granted.

[If she ever goes home, Cosima is determined to never complain about a copier jam again.]

Your home sounds terribly fascinating, I have to say.

Would you like a copy of the packets as they are now? You can make notes on things that I should add or change and I'll incorporate the changes in the next edition.

Copy machines but no dragons, shit, that's home in a nutshell.

But yeah, if you can spare a copy, that'd be great. I can review it and then let you know if I have any suggestions? And maybe make a few more copies by hand if I have time, you can't be the only Rifter to suffer hand cramps for the greater good.

Do you have magic? Other planes of existence? I'm so curious about how your world differs from mine, or Thedas in general — Thedas is strange to me, but it's entirely recognizable. It sounds like yours might not even be that.

I don't think we have magic. If we do, it's very hidden. [She keeps an open mind, these days.] But because of that, we do a lot of problem-solving with technology instead. Ways to keep buildings comfortably cool or warm, ways to heal illnesses, faster travel.

But I mean, people are still people. I think that's recognizable, even if it's taken me a long time to adjust to Thedas.

I've got a room here in the Gallows, and I share a research lab. Most of the regular runners know where to find me.

Do you have any free time coming up any time soon? I'd love to hear more. Healing illness and faster travel through technology sounds fascinating — are they things you've considered trying to replicate in Thedas?

That is true... Though it's a bit strange going from a place with one set of social rules to another with entirely different ones. I suppose that wouldn't be all that different from traveling between cultures, though.
