I ain't been here long. Have we ever had a proper tourney, like?

We've horses enough for the joust. We've space for the melee. Some of you, I've heard tell, can manage well enough with a lute. And there can be betting, if any could be bothered to bookie. You know, so you can join in even if you can't hold a weapon or ride a sodding horse.

Has anyone done that? Might be worthwhile, yeah? Considering... things can get a bit boring, staying all in one place, if you ain't careful.

I didn't realize you had games like that in this world. Does the melee involve all the competitors fighting together? Is it only the jousting and melee?

That depends what's in season. But lately melee's most popular one-on-one. There's the quintain, but that ain't been in season for ages. And tupinaire's for real knobs, I'll have naught to do with it. And only cunts like pas d'armes.

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with any of those, but I'll take your word for which to avoid should I encounter them in the wilds. It will be the melee and jousting for us then? Are there any races or things like shot throw?

Oh! No, I don't think so. It is very impressive to watch the skills of the other warriors and the athletes especially, but the racing is usually on foot or mounted and shot put is just throwing a metal ball the size of a fist. There's javelin throwing as well. And wrestling.

If we were to do the games the way my people did, I imagine the only expense would be the shot put and the javelin. Traditionally it's all preformed in the nude, but for comfort's sake, most of the women in my home wore clothing of some sort.

[No one is wearing armor in this, which means they'll get even more maimed than usual, so... not Jone's problem!]

The races at least. [ Because frankly she's not 100% on letting people who usually clank around in armor wrestle each other ] And I'll gladly help you with the rest of it, if you like. I don't have much in the way of connection, but I can't imagine a tourney would be difficult to negotiate with a patron.

Horse races are for country folk. How you do it in a city, I haven't the foggiest.

Mm, true. We had a circuit for it and the foot races in the coliseum, but I haven't seen quite the same sort of building here. And setting a route through the city streets seems courting disaster. The foot races at the very least, we've enough space for a sprint type.
