[crystal] your judicial systems in action

FORM: Crystal
SENDER: Ilias
RECIPIENT: Everyone
NOTES: Congrats on almost being people for 2 seconds, mages.

Hello. In case I have not met a number of you, [ It's been a month. He's been— occupied. ] This is Speaker Fabria. I manage Project Haven, which works to maintain good relations with the Chantry, and through it the Inquisition.

There has been some news of late that is— [ concerning? ha ha nah. ] perhaps relevant to some our number. Evidently, a blackhaller in Ferelden agreed to hear charges brought against a Templar by a mage, regarding the former's conduct in Kinloch Hold. In the absence of an active Circle or any other clear process to resolve the complaint, my understanding is that Queen Anora supported the blackhaller's decision, and asserted Fereldan's right to handle disputes that arise within their own borders in this instance.

[ Like mages were citizens or something. Madness. ]

Her Holiness Divine Beatrix has subsequently appointed a Brother and Sister in Val Royeaux to receive and respond to charges brought against either mages or Templars. In the future, any such complaints must be delivered to Val Royeaux by the complaintants in person, so that their identities may be verified.

[ """so that their identities may be verified""" ]

—On an unrelated note, while I have a moment of your attention, I would ask everyone to remember that our relationship with the Chantry is vital to our ability to work seamlessly with the Inquisition and defeat Corypheus. I understand we have gained several Chantry representatives among our number of late, and I hope their presence is beneficial to that end.

If you have any concerns about your [ wildly illegal blood magic experiments or ] ability to represent Riftwatch in a manner inoffensive to the Chantry, please come to me personally. Project Haven exists to help all of us find ways to work peaceably together toward a common goal.

That is the right of the Divine to do so though Val Royeaux and ensuring the safety of couriers and their documents is...well.

[There's doubtless a verse to cover what she's not saying so no one who might ever report her could tell her off.]

I've not been impressed with the clerical brothers and sisters in Val Royeaux either. Don't suppose you still have any contacts there?

Brother Hervé perhaps might be best, young enough to have fire in him still, my Revered Mother would back him on it, maybe some of the Sisters. A Templar might but I don't know what the word of a Templar would be worth in this.

It's how he'd wield the fire that I worry about. Plenty of passionate, dedicated Brothers and Sisters think things like the Dissonant Verses shouldn't be accounted for. A failure account for one can lead easily to a failure to account for other things.

The Dissonant Verses were never a problem with him, it was more the ones in the opposite corner who eventually argued that a Brother might only rise so high. I like to think he'll outlast them and see his work through in the end.

He sounds tolerable. [ High praise from someone who once got in a shouting match over punctuation. ] Perhaps we'll be fortunate enough that he'll be chosen alongside a sister who can keep proper account of the documentation.

Then all we have to worry about is couriers getting attacked before they get anywhere.

Probably not; they'll pick one who argues in a particular way and who'll only find some convenient fact or note of import when it suits. Too young is what they'll say, too young and untested.

As for the roads, they were bad much of my way out of Orlais and I was fortunate to argue that one Sister is likely to draw less ire alone than a Templar in step with her. But...I might have felt safer for the company. Most won't have that. There were certainly many eyes.

[Or was that just her who had them prickling all over, burrs beneath her robes?]

Denerim will not be a wise choice for any side until long after you and I are sent to the pyre; the choices made there by too many parties will linger. No, not Denerim. Too close to the Free Marches and too close to Riftwatch maybe was the thinking too. The bosom of the Chantry and grandeur enough to blind all maybe that was the thinking.

[If it's meant to be a question it falls flat, falls far from it; the scowl is audible, a bitter taste in the mouth.]

[Orlais only if Celene were dead but you can't say that.]

Antiva would maybe have accusations of favouritism but there are other affairs more important there. Nevarra would've put noses out of joint but it might've been better if things hadn't turned as they have.

If push came to shove though I'd sooner take Serault over Val Royeaux.

Not all shame is equal; what's the price of gold or glass these days?

[Serault's shame in the shadow of Val Royeaux's opulence? There are more important battles in the here and now rather than what old men and women did.]
