You know, I cannot figure it out. Do we hate magic or don't we? Because Inquisition means something totally different where I'm from and I'm getting real mixed messages around here. Bad enough that some of you think that I'm like. What. A hallucination or something? Don't think I don't hear what you say about those of us who didn't grow up in a place where you got everywhere without a car.

[BUT THAT SAID:]

Okay so two questions.

One: if I say spirit, or, maybe like. Fairy? What do you say in response.

And two: What's the next biggest city around here?

I don't know what that is.

[ "Portuguese." Probably more made-up stuff from made-up worlds. Gross. It doesn't really sound like a question, just a statement, stop using made-up words, thank you, and he moves briskly on— ]

Magic is complicated. Thedas on the whole is afraid of mages. The degree of that varies by country, and individuals are— [ what's the word ] —individual. [ Nailed it. ] The Inquisition recruited the a force of rebel mages, and we have an unusually high proportion of mages in the Gallows, so the people you speak to here—they aren't representative. If you go ask about magic in a tavern, most people will recoil. Or want to fight.
