You know, I cannot figure it out. Do we hate magic or don't we? Because Inquisition means something totally different where I'm from and I'm getting real mixed messages around here. Bad enough that some of you think that I'm like. What. A hallucination or something? Don't think I don't hear what you say about those of us who didn't grow up in a place where you got everywhere without a car.

Okay so two questions.

One: if I say spirit, or, maybe like. Fairy? What do you say in response.

And two: What's the next biggest city around here?

Because I think we all have kind of different definitions. And I want to know what people around here think, because where I'm from it's not a bad one.

Well, it's not such a bad one here, either. Here, there's spirits and demons, and while demons are supposed to be wicked, spirits can be good.

Well, we have demons too, but that's mostly a Catholic thing. There are just bad spirits that mean people ill and good ones that don't really bother people at all. And like. Middling ones that like to tease.

Mm. So a bit different between here and there, it sounds.

Yeah, I guess. It's weird. I didn't even think about it.

Well, lots of other things are different between here and there. Lots of attitudes. Guess it makes sense that spirits would be too, right?

Yeah, except I feel like if one thing should stay the same.

Spirits here don't eat people. Or start tempests. Or steal your right sock.

Why would it? Stay the same?

Because if one thing should be constant it's the taste of jaboticaba and the Saci-Perere.

Why?

Because it is. I don't know. Because that's how the world always worked.

Well, the world presumably also always worked in lots of ways that aren't true here now. I mean - did you have magic like this back home?

Some spirits did. And the mae-de-santo.

Yeah. I once saw a mae-de-santo cast fire. And the spirits are always using magic. Mostly illusions though.

Oh. I thought it was a type of spirit. Honestly, can't you use terms that everyone can understand, please?

Well explain what they are. Honestly, you've got to know by now that when you use terms like that, people aren't going to understand.

No. It's just hard to have a conversation when you don't make it easy to know what you're talking about.
