SUBJECT: Project Stormrider: Peaceful Acquisitions
PARTICIPANTS: Misc members of Riftwatch, including Xiomara and Astrid
CLASSIFICATION: Public
DATE FILED: Drakonis 9:50
STATUS: Complete
SUMMARY: Members of Riftwatch were tasked with identifying, locating, and capturing a ship for use in Viktor and Wysteria's airship project. They did that. Mostly.

REPORT:

Provost Niehaus,

I would greatly appreciate if you might discuss the meaning of restraint and care with the other Division Heads during your next meeting with them. It seems quite vital that both these concepts be passed down through the ranks, as it appears very few members of Riftwatch have a firm grasp on either.

While the capture of the Best Laid Plan was ultimately successful, it is in the sense that we have acquired a chunk of splinters which I can only assume once bore that name. Though how exactly one would go about confirming that fact is unknown to me given the outrageous damage done to both the boat's stern sections and bow. One must thus guess at her identity based entirely on the arrangement of her masts, and battered canvas, and the disproportionate number of Antivan sailors dumped along the coast. Or, I suppose, the testimonies of Misses Novoa and Runasdotten who I believe sighted it prior to its harassment.

Viktor and I have assessed the damage in need of mending. On the back of this page you will find a list of materials which will be required on the following page, including a sizable hunk of elm or oak for the carving of a new figurehead. Unless of course we wish to keep the beheaded horse currently occupying that space.

Respectfully,
Wysteria A.P. d.Foncé

NEXT STEPS: Repair the boat for inclusion in the airship project. Despite Wysteria's penchant for hyperbole, it's not quite so decimated as all that.

It seems prudent, given the current situation, for us to publicly identify those who have been acting out of character. I can understand a desire for secrecy, to take any imposters by surprise, but the risk of one of our own being caught unawares seems much greater.

Who has been strange of late? And when did this change in behavior start?

Everyone pay attention. This is important.

[ The background to this late-evening message is a bit of wind, a bit of snoring from something with lungs bigger than a human's/elf's/etc. The accent is a little unusual—predominately Rivaini, but with a touch of the Qun in the vowels and an echo of elven lilt. The speaker is not identified, because if people don't know her by now, that's their fault. ]

We need nicknames. We can't be a motley collection of rogues and renegades without nicknames.

SUBJECT: Elven outreach in the Silent Plains
PARTICIPANTS: Jayce, Xiomara, Desidério, and Nina
CLASSIFICATION: Public, presented to the leadership of Riftwatch and the March during their time in the Silent Plains
DATE FILED: Firstfall, shortly after returning to the March's camp
STATUS: Complete
SUMMARY: A small team, made of Riftwatch and The People of the Silent Plains, attempted to locate a clan of Dalish that were attacking members of the Exalted March in the Silent Plains. They were met with warning arrows, but no Dalish. They did find a sand aravel and hijacked it via griffon theft auto to prove the presence of elves besides the People.

REPORT:Read more... )

NEXT STEPS: Continue to foster a positive relationship between Riftwatch and the People of the Silent Plains. Discourage the March from expending resources to hunt down elusive elves. Do whatever with the aravel (e.g. turn it over to the March to utilize if/as they wish, give it to Xiomara and/or Desidério to fly around, other).

[ Xiomara's voice, with the faint background whistle of desert wind: ]

Yes, hello Riftwatch, Jayce needs to know which of the griffons no one likes.

[ After which there may be several hours of silence before anyone follows up. Or maybe not! ]

Hello, my ducks.

[ Byerly sounds cheerful. For once, it's not obnoxious cheer; it's not smirking or smug. Just cheerful. ]

I've a bit of news to share with everyone. I've decided that after several years of service - yes, that's right, it's been years, and if you do the math you realize I did in fact start serving when I was a mere seventeen years of age, being as I am now only twenty-one, which is why I'm devoid of wrinkles - After several years of service, I shall be stepping down as head of diplomacy.

Unclear at the moment who'll take over for me. Give it a thought, I suppose, if you're interested. It's a hard job, and often quite miserable, if I'm to tell the truth, but - What point is one's life if one does not serve, eh?

I have—

[ I have echoes oddly in the background. Other people's crystals. ]

That is not what I sound like. That isn't—put it away. That's awful. Is that what I sound like?

[ All of this also echoes, so close together that it’s more a disconcerting acoustic largeness than a proper cave-like echo. ]

Go away. Or I'll go away.

[ She is going away, leaving her companions and their crystals behind. ]

I have an announcement, Riftwatch. I have just arrived and my bear, [ just in time for Chantry visits, ] is in your garden. The little one with the three trees. It's only until I find somewhere else for him to stay, but for now: beware of bear.

He should be nice as long as you do not surprise him. And if you carry something in your pockets to toss him if he needs a distraction, that is not a bad idea. He likes sugar and lizards.

He might also like snack-sized dogs. I don’t know. I haven’t tried. But if you like yours I would not take them there right now, to be safe.

That's all! Now someone tell me if this worked.
