WHAT: Itching and bitching. This is a serious complaint that must be addressed.

Apparently someone has seen fit to play a prank upon me. When I find out who's responsible, you will regret it... especially if it's you, Anders. [That agitated growl comes into his voice momentarily. Then there's a pause and a long sigh, followed by the sound of vigorous scratching. Though the latter is probably tricky to entirely guess at, it's at least apparent that he's doing something in the background.]

I thought we were all above such behavior. Unless someone can provide a better explanation for this...

[But he doesn't get to elaborate, as he's again too distracted by the incessant itching.]

[She can tell, the way he is snarling. Her tone is calm, but not soothing. Fenris always appreciates people being straight forward.]

I will see what I have at our home, but we might have to go to the Gallows if it's that serious. I'm on my way.

[That he does. He knows at least he can count on the likes of Bethany, even when he's in a less than pleasant mood. He can be sort of prickly, hard to be around, at a time like this... but she understands. She's patient enough to deal with him.]

Let's hope that whatever you bring along works. I just want this to end, already. I have more important ways to spend my time.

[What he's not revealing: just how unpleasant the lyrium brands are starting to look. He'd prefer being angry at some unknown prankster to... to whatever this might entail.]

I know you do not have the time to spare, not with all we have going on right now. I'll be there soon.

[A soothing voice, with all the soothing balms she has hoarded away to bring to him. It doesn't take long - her and Aleron's home is not far from Fenris's mansion.]

Fenris! I am here, where are you?

[He's preoccupied with the itching, of course, so he hasn't moved from where he was using the crystal, in his room. But he hears Bethany as she enters, and hurries out and down the stairs when she calls.]

[He's taken most of his armor off, at the moment, and the lyrium brands that decorate his body are looking rather unpleasant. They're raised and leaking like any skin that's undergoing an allergic reaction. He's not too thrilled at her seeing him like this, but perhaps the look of it all will keep her from coming too close.]

I'm here. I'm... attempting not to scratch, but it's near impossible to stop. What did you bring with you?

[She looks up, hearing his voice, and moves towards the stairs as he starts to descend. After a moment she holds still, staring at his brands. Then she immediately makes a clucking noise, moving to put her bag on a nearby table.]

Here, I've brought all the salves and ointments I could find. Most of these come from our Inquisition healers, so hopefully they should work well enough.

Thank you, Bethany. I know you won't expect anything in return, but I'll pay you back someday, regardless. It's... [He pauses, grimacing as the itch takes over, one spot on his left shoulder driving him crazy at the moment. He tries to bear it, can't quite manage, and reaches up for a very quick little scratch.] ...The least I can do. I'm getting weary of living like this.

You can pay me back by getting better. Here, take this.

[She handed over a jar, nodding for him to try it.]

This is one of Sam's concoctions. He's an excellent healer and herbalist. I have a few from the others, as well. Tried to stock up considering my healing is 'slap a bandage on it'.

Believe me, there's nothing I want more in the world.

[An end to slavery and the Tevinter Imperium crumbling into nothing would be high on that list of course, but this here is a very immediate need. He picks up the jar to look it over.]

It's a good idea to stock up, if this is about to become a regular occurrence. I for one hope not... [Opening the jar now, he dips a few fingers in to start spreading it over the brands.] Well, that's... somewhat better... [Not that he'd gotten his hopes up for an instant cure. Some relief is better than nothing right now.]

[She put out all the different jars, and hummed as he put in on. Inspecting the marks, they do look less ... red.]

We have some anti-itch stuff as well. What in the world is happening, though. When did this start?

[Anything that takes the edge off a bit is worth it at this time, really. He can still feel that itching, coursing along the brands, but it's not as insistent anymore. He can function. That's enough, for now, though curing it completely is the aim. Maybe if he keeps using this stuff...]

That would be helpful. Anything would, at the moment. This... Hm. It started a couple of days ago. It wasn't as bad, initially, but then it worsened...

Did you notice any other symptoms?

[She stated, as she went to grab two different kinds of ointment, eyeing them both, then handed them both over.]

[He takes the offered ointment, likewise looking them over, but knowing at this point he's just going to try them anyway, regardless of what's in them. Settling on one, he opens it up.]

At the moment... nothing else. It's mainly the itching, and now the changes to the brands' appearance. They look... more unpleasant now than they ever have.

[They look diseased, but he hates using such a word for it. But they've definitely taken on the appearance of an allergic reaction.]

[She frowns deeply, before going to take out some parchment to take some notes.] Do you think that your brands are finally being rejected by your body? The magic finally breaking down?

[It's certainly a possibility, one he's had to consider as well. Some part of him wonders what life might be like if he could be rid of them, once and for all. The problem is, he doesn't know another life without them, he doesn't remember. He's adapted to them so strongly that he can't imagine what it might be like if they stopped working entirely...]

I don't know. I wish I had a better answer than that... anything is possible, though given the timing in relation to everything else that's happening... it's probably connected to the others' difficulties.

[She sighed, before she looked at him more gravely.]

I think ... we ought to see an experience healer, Fenris. For your sake.

[He’d been afraid of that very thing, though it was probably inevitable. With a sigh, and a shake of the head, he tries to come up with his best argument. He’s so frustrated and weary of the itching that he isn’t as forceful as usual about it all, though.]

I figured you would say that… I’m willing to try what you’ve brought first, and go from there. I don’t know if many healers are equipped to handle… this.

[He gestures to the brands along one of his arms, which are faintly glowing.]
