Inquisition, now that we're settled in Kirkwall I come to you with two very exciting propositions. As some of you know, I taught how to climb and run the walls and battlements of Skyhold, how to fall from such heights safely but alas this was not as it was at home when Skyhold was so contained. But here we are in Kirkwall! I can truly teach you how to leap from building to building if your desire and to dive into the waters from buildings and from the rigging of a ship. Of course, we start small so as not to injure your good self but if that prospect sounds intriguing, please come find me. I am Araceli Bonaventura, at your service. I'm either working at the Gallows or by the docks or you might happen to look up.

The second is a thing to celebrate and I could say that I do it as leader of the naval projects but truly? I do it as someone who loves cooking and seafood, to finally be back by the water after so long removed from it. Tell me, Inquisition, what are your favourite seafood dishes? Your favourite meals from Antiva or Rivain or places such as that? Because I thought it might be an idea to have a cookout by the waves towards the end of the month, say, the twenty-second? Everyone is welcome if they are a fan of good food and good times among friends.

[Also it's her birthday but since they don't really do birthdays that way back home, what better thing to do than have a fun time with people that have all certainly earned it?]

As if there's any other way to do it.

[Let's joke casually about all the ways you could grievously injure or kill yourself but look, you gotta be stylish when you're parkouring.]

Kirkwall's most redeeming quality is being by the sea so the food is fresh. I don't trust shellfish when I haven't bought them myself but peel and eat shrimp? [She's had shrimp obviously but this must be one of your strange other rift foods Cosima.]

Yeah, they're shrimp that are cooked and served in their exoskeletons, so you have to remove them yourself before you eat them. Messy, but delicious.

[A pause. Then:]

To be clear, I don't know how to make them myself. I've just eaten a lot of them.

We eat shrimp but they're a pain to prepare, I just didn't know they an adorable name.

[Usually it's you fucking shrimp why are you like this in her kitchen but that's just her, she's a passionate cook who shouts at her cooking.]

I wouldn't have trusted the shellfish up in Skyhold but I know a few people here. It could be done but I'd need you to try them first before the day to see if they're right, that wouldn't be a hardship, would it?

I mean, yeah, it'd be hard but I'd totally take one for the team.

What's your favorite? I mean, I probably won't know the name, but you can describe it for me.

A fish stew that I would get from one of the stalls by the docks and it was never the same two days in a row; they made it with the catch of the day, it always had a lot of tomato sauce, some white wine, a little orange zest. You ate it in a bread bowl and the top bit was cut so it was your spoon. I've made it here a few times but it's more fun when you can just pick it up on your way out. Or back home.

Usually it was breakfast after a long night, sopped up the hangover.

[If the smell of the sea and fish didn't do that already.]

That sounds great, actually. Bread spoon. I'm totally in.

Maybe if enough of you develop a passion for it, it'll catch on with the locals.

I am totally happy to help boost a food craze. Especially when you can walk around the streets eating it. Where I'm from, there are a lot of people who sell food off our world's equivalent of carts, and it's always the best somehow.

The chew-- no...churros? They sounded like they would be a good street food.

[She laughs, because of course everyone was listening to that.]

They are, that's how they're traditionally served. You usually get a few in a cup or wrapped in paper and walk around eating them.

Sometimes they come with dipping sauce, for the very coordinated.

I feel very afraid for what would happen to your people if they had to try walking in my home where our few streets are very narrow and open onto the water and where nearly every bridge can be moved as required.

[How can people not eat food and walk, does that actual require coordination Cosima??? She would fade away to a shadow if she didn't do them at the same time.]

That sounds pretty complicated, yeah. But hey, I grew up on a boat, so I have better than average "eating while in motion" skills. You know, for when that comes up.

[WHY IS SHE ONLY LEARNING THIS NOW?]

My friend. You have been holding out on me, I think; my father was born on the ship he sails on now, has never spent a whole day and night on shore, and you only tell me now you grew up on a boat?

[Can you tell she's kind of blushing through the crystal? Probably not, right?]

I mean. A houseboat. Smallish and in harbor a lot? I didn't want to, like, present myself as a sailor without the actual credentials, but I do know how sails work.

[If Araceli was actually part-shark, she wouldn't sense blood in the water, she'd sense ladies blushing.]

Cosima-- [Araceli. Araceli be cool. Collect yourself.] We need to go sailing. Even in a small ship, my father taught me, we can commandeer a vessel somewhere.

OK, [with a laugh,]

Yeah, that'd be nice. I missed the ocean before Kirkwall. Though we probably shouldn't go wildly grabbing people's stuff, the Inquisition only just arrived.

I can be very charming, we'd only borrow the ship for a short time, see what there is to see that we didn't get to on the crossing, I think my captain at least took the most boring route. [Also never tell Herian because Araceli doesn't want to get into a duel with Herian because no one's walking away from that one and the carnage that would follow.]

Man, ours definitely took the most direct. There were a few people who obviously weren't used to sea travel.

[Cosima had been sympathetic, but there wasn't much to do for that sort of seasickness but wait it out.]

But I wouldn't mind seeing a bit more of the coast. It's all new to me.

[Remembering Sina, Araceli hisses softly, wincing where Cosima can't see her. Ginger tea stretches only so far.]

I've been to Antiva and Rivain with the Inqusition, we were able to sail then. You would love it but even Kirkwall when we're close to Ostwick and with stories of the Felicisima Armada? There's much to explore.

I'm sold. I mean, we might need to find a mission where you need some extra help from the research team, but that doesn't seem impossible.
