The age-old question

So at what age are you really an adult? I mean, not maturely but like... to other people. You say you 'come of age' and stuff like that but exactly what age is that in Ferelden? Here you can't join the army if you're under seventeen, which is fair. Does that mean you're an adult after seventeen?

I heard some rifter saying you can't drink unless you're eighteen or twenty-one or whatever. Rivain doesn't have a rule like that. I had wine when I was a kid, so I don't see the point of restricting it.

...but, like... at what age are you an adult? How old do you gotta be to marry someone without it being weird?

[Pause.]

Not that I'm marrying anyone!

I agree. Though some of them end up better off than they were as slaves. If they're lucky their husband dies while they're still young, and then they're not only free but enormously wealthy.

No. [Her voice is firm on that. She hasn't met many Tevinters, but well. People talk.]

I'm a Rifter.

You didn't insult me. I just wanted to make it clear I'm not from Tevinter. I'm not from a society that has slaves, either. I've worked since I was old enough to identify valuable pieces of scrap. [if you want to get technical, Rey wasn't much better off than a slave herself, she had never worked for a real wage and living quarters weren't even provided. But she won't make that connection.]

Sort of, though it was broken starship parts, where I'm from. Usually more valuable than straight garbage, because if you find good working parts, or can fix a part, you can get a decent porti-price for it.

[Oh yeah people of this world don't know tech. She lets out a small laugh.]

It's... a vessel, similar to the ships that cross oceans here, although they can travel through space. Beyond the sky, to different planets.
