[A somewhat monotone voice is heard over the crystals.]

It's Pel. Of Clan Ashara. I've written a book and it's published now. It's about Dalish culture. I will be selling it at my yarn shop until the new Divine is elected, at which point it will be banned because it's a book about elves written by an elf. So buy it while you can.

[What? She's not a hawker. She's not a beggar, either.

She'll hang around on the crystal in case anyone has questions.]

I suppose I keep picking things I grew up seeing. We put statues of a wolf--Fen'harel--at the outskirts of our camp to ward off unfriendly spirits. As much as Fen'harel was a trickster, I suppose I always grew up thinking he protected our camp. Fierce and wild. So I liked the idea of a wolf. And Andruil's messenger was an owl, and I see owls round here. White ones.

I didn't know that about the statues. Is that something you cover in your book?

Always good to go with something familiar. Makes it easier to learn the animal after all. A wolf and an owl... I should probably consider something that flies at some point. It must be an amazing feeling

It is. Those statues made a real impression on me.

I hope flying is as good as it sounds. Even just being a wolf feels good. Simple. Feet on the earth, sky above.

I hope so as well. Probably not as easy to learn as running on four legs though.

[After all there was a whole new dimension to consider with the movement; up and down.]

You say you're learning to be an owl?

That's the idea. I've been working off one of the local types of owl. What's your next form going to be, if you have your way?

The wild Hart in the stable actually. It would be good for traveling - it handles terrain rather well - and it's pretty strong.

Perhaps after that I will find something that can fly.

I would never ride a hart. A halla, absolutely, but not a hart. Harts have these antlers that spread wide to each side. It seems like they'd catch on everything. Halla antlers don't go to the sides like that, they mostly go backward.

They're surprisingly very good at not having that happen actually. Pretty good for defending themselves... or attacking really.

That and I'm pretty sure I'm not allowed to ride a halla.

[Not going to even consider turning into one either.]

It has to be the halla's idea, not yours.

Anyway, a hart's much too big for me. Though you're right, you never want to anger one. They'll kill you as quickly as a bear.

Really? And here I thought it was because they eat humans.

[Running joke that someone coughTwistedFatecough had started a while back.

That and he had figured that riding a halla as a human would be... disrespectful. That's the feeling he got at least.]

See? Perfect. And then I'll also be purple.

I like purple. It's my favorite color.

[Might be the first time she has ever admitted that to anyone. At once, she wonders if she just blurted out TMI.]

Will I be your favorite colored hart then? Besides the one we already have of course.

Purple, huh? I'll have to keep that in mind.

[Didn't seem like too much information to him, just like fun fun facts.]

Kind of partial to blues and reds myself.
