I found a book in the library, 

[ hello inquisition. the words are distant, drifting; the accent as obviously foreign as it's peculiarly-intoned. think: extremely chill dracula ]

It describes the interpretation of dreams — I don't believe it belonged to the Circle, the author was no mage. 

The perspective is new to me. That a dream of squash might symbolize success is, [ pause ] Unorthodox to my understanding.

I require your assistance: What do you dream of?

Going home, most often. But sometimes falling.

I never really used to dream about that, but I do here, all the time. Sometimes...more grisly things, too. Like terrible injuries, and I don't really know why.

I changed universes, though, so I suppose that might have something to do with it.

Is that what you consider the Fade?

Sort of, I suppose. I think it's a place between universes. Connecting them, binding them, through magic. That's what magic is, anyway, isn't it? It's everywhere. We just can't see it.

[ Clearing his throat. ]

Is that how you think of it?

[ the precise nature of the fade has been a matter of debates theological and philosophical for Ages, but a necessarily hands-on approach has coloured his assessment. still, a correction: ]

Not precisely. You come from the Fade, the second world, which rests parallel to Thedas. It is proximity that binds us, the Veil which separates us. Magic is as water against a dam, seeking holes between the stones. Transformed for the pressure of a mind. Perhaps even your own.
