[ For a long several moments, silence broadcasts over the crystal, Iorveth having just activated it after reading the announcement on negotiations results posted, lost for words. When they do come, it's like they're being spoken through a snarl. ]
You left to end the blood leashing.
Not push it off on the next lesser group.
[ there is a deafening thud that sounds before Iorveth's voice goes out, and anyone physically standing by the Gallows announcement board will have just witnessed Iorveth pull a dagger (with at least a foot worth of blade on it) free, and slam it through the notice and into the board, metal and splinters jutting out the opposite side, before walking away.
He mad. (And he'll come fix the board later, leave him alone) ]

private ;
[ he remembers Inessa from the gardens, and what they'd spoken of about the rifts and the shards. hearing her support, another thought comes to mind, and he's careful on voicing it. surely it can't be a missed fact, but knowing with certainty would open a lot of options for him. the communication swaps quickly to private. ]
You'd told me before, in the gardens, that you've put a great deal of work into the project researching the rifts and the shards. There's a question I'd wish to hear your thoughts on, if you'd be willing. Can I meet you somewhere?
private ;
action!!!
[ thranduil had demanded he report to his office, but this is something he needs an answer for first. Making his way there, iorveth pulls a piece of venison jerky free from his pouch when he heard garahel down the hall, handing it over to the dog as he a pushes the door open after a knock. ]
Inessa? A moment of your time?

Of course. Please, enter.
[She pushes her seat back from her desk and moves to stand.]
What do you need?

A quick question, on the shards.
The Inquisition tells us, Rifters, that we're unable to leave the bulk of the Inquisition for long, else the shards will have us suffer debilitating pain, and death. But is this less something the Inquisition itself has in their possession, or more just the proximity of the shard to the majority of other shards?
[ it's very important that they know which it is. he has his suspicion, but it's something they have to be certain of before acting on it. ]
Hypothetically, if the bulk of shard-bearers where to venture across the continent together, away from any Inquisition forces, would they still experience the same effects?

...it's true that traveling with a group of other anchor-bearers will cause the pain to develop more slowly. The more with you, the slower the pain progresses. The maximum length of time someone could be away could be away with a smaller group that included at least one other rifter would be a month. Closing rifts would also provide temporary relief.
The Inquisition has moved forces to the Western Approach, the Dales and so on in the past. Anchor-bearers were a part of that because there were so many of them together than the onset of pain is effectively slowed to a stop. This has not been tested long-term away from an Inquisition base, but -hypothetically- it is possible.
Of course, that would depend on nearly everyone being in agreement, which I can't guarantee even now. But if the proposal evolves into more than that, I can see further protests.

[ Iorveth muses, from the seat he'd taken. he doesn't plan to stay long, but he'd not refuse her hospitality. and standing makes people anxious. ]
A month. And with a larger group, several more months? Extended further if we're to close rifts while we're departed?
[ they could stretch it considerably further, though it does leave the question - if the majority of the rifters migrate, and a small group remains with the Inquisition, will that smaller group suffer the way the others would have if they weren't the majority? something to muse on, and possibly a, admittedly cruel, way to convince more to come along. but in playing games like this with freedom at stake, standing in the way of others free will makes one an enemy.
again, a hope he has that this potential route won't be needed. ]
There's many potential problems with it, I know. I'd just wanted to be certain that it was one viable options, and what the conditions would need be. Thank you, Inessa, your counsel has been invaluable.

You have a powerful resource that the Inquisition needs, it's true. But you should be able to determine your own fate, just as the mages. If the leadership chooses not to respect that, perhaps a strike of another sort is in order.

[ After he stands, Iorveth puts a hand to his chest, and offers a small bow of thanks. He doesn't say things like that lightly. ]
I loathe the thought of leaving the people defenseless to the rifts, should it come to that, but I admit, I'm fair from the kindest soul among the Rifters. [ he will let plenty of people die if the other options means making slaves. These ideals aren't negotiable to him. ] Should you find yourself in need of anything I can supply assistance with, please don't hesitate to call on me.

Thank you, Iorveth. [Her tone is quiet, touched, and she offers a genuine smile.]
I'll remember that, when it's needed. I am not completely without ties to those who bear anchors; a few are very important to me, and I worry for their freedom as well as overall fate. Whatever happens to them will always be my concern. I refuse to have my own freedom traded for theirs.
