Good afternoon there, Inquisition. It is your two newest scouts, Adasse Agassi and my companion in arms -

In that what we're going with? Companion in arms? Okay, fine. Okay. And his brave companion in arms, Haelan.

Well I am sure they already know you're my best mate, y'whiner. Anyways - we've taken note that some of the merchants have been giving a bit of the cold shoulder - and we thought to ourselves, Haelan and Adasse, you can help with this.

Over the years we have built up a relationship with many of the city's merchants and traders and we are willing to use this to your advantage- we can do your shopping for you! And I'm not a whiner.

For a modest fee, naturally. And yes, you are.

A very fair fee, as we'll drop off your shopping where-ever you like within the city. Don't want to carry your stuff from Hightown back to the Gallows? No problem, we'll do it for you. Can't go through Lowtown until the Carta back off? No problem, we'll go pick up your groceries.

And no, I'm not.

Nothing is too big, or too small, or too hard to get our hands on ... outside of dragons. And dragon bits. That's just - you have to kill a dragon for that and we try to avoid dragons as much as possible. It's a life choice where we decide to live.

Soooooo are.

And haunted stuff. I'm not dealing with haunted stuff. But if you have your dragon bits ordered from someone else, we can go pick those up for you! No problem.

Shut up.

We also do messages, love letters, hate letters, and just general communication outside of the Gallows proper. Inside the Gallows proper we do that for free, as it's sort of our job.

You love me.

If you want us to sing your messages, there is an extra charge. If Adasse does any singing we have to pay for people to see Healers. And yeah, I love you.

I think the opposite may be true.

There's a lot of abandoned buildings in this town. Warehouses and shops and those big fancy mansions up in Hightown. Swear to the Maker, most of them are full of demons.

It is certainly enough for spirits to appear here. It would make sense that demons would as well.

Demons, spirits, people falling out the sky. It's all bad. So we don't do haunted stuff.

Unless the money is really, really good.

It may not be so wise to argue that spirits are bad with one such as I. I am afraid we would never agree in such a case.

What about the ones that try to rip off your head and go down your throat?

Not every person is good so why should ever spirit be good? Some are full of mischief and must be guided back to the Land of the Dreams.

That doesn't explain the head-ripping part, but I'm willing to accept that.

Unfortunately, their mischief can be...violent. They are not aware of the cruelties it would impose on this world. It is hard for them to understand what it would mean to mortals.

Haelan doesn't say anything, but the silence speaks volumes. He's trying to be nice. But it's difficult when people come up with this rubbish.]

Weren't they all mortals before? Can't they remember that having your heard ripped off is a bad thing?

Is this what lowlanders are taught about spirits? I am not familiar with many of the tales of these lands.

So... spirits aren't ghosts? Dead people come back to haunt the living? Like undead but... more floaty?

Not at all. Spirits are beings of another realm. The Land of the Dreams. Lowlanders call it the Fade. They were never mortal and are made only of that which is from their realm.

So they aren't dead people going up to the Maker and getting stuck in the Fade? Because I was... told that once. I think.

They are not. The souls of the living and spirits are not the same. I give my word.

Well... alright. But I still don't think the head ripping off stuff is forgivable. I'm attached to my head. Where it is.

It should not be forgiven. That is why the mischievous spirits must be returned to where they belong. They are not meant to live here and they only bring great harm the longer they stay.

I agree with that. And they have no right hiding in chests where any decent person would keep money and valuables.

I would agree with that. You two were fortunate.
