If I were the thief, I probably wouldn't have responded to your message. I would, however, lay low if I were planning to try to sell or otherwise dispose of the thing. Leave it hidden until people are less likely to be paying attention or are distracted by something else, assuming I had a good hiding place.

I'm not sure, actually, but if there isn't a buyer here, this is a trading hub. I'm sure it would interest the enemies of the Inquisition, though, or even just nosy mages who aren't affiliated. You're right, though, it might take some time to fence.

I don't know for certain, but I think it might be reasonable to check in with the scouting division to see if they have someone suitable to the task. I believe Beleth Ashara is in charge, though I've not had the pleasure of meeting her myself.
