Right, gotta ask since it's been nigglin' me like a loose tooth for a bit now Inquisition, what d'you all know about dwarves? Rifters you don't get a free pass unless you fell out the skies yesterday, s'not like we're a rare sight but, y'know, 'specially since we've been here a while now and-- [there's a little edge to his voice, he coughs to clear that, can't sound like he gives a shit, just the damp and the smoke lingering yeah?] you've been with lots of dwarves. Lot of my family even!
Might get invited to Sunday dinner if you play your cards right but word to the wise, maybe don't? Politely decline. But not too polite yeah? [Don't know what you'll be served on a Darktown dinner table do you now?]

[Sam's voice is calm, having taken no offense to what was being said. It's a conversation he's had many times, not the first time he's heard the same reasoning that Yngvi was giving. He gets it. Even so he has to point out that the reasoning isn't as rosy as people think it is. It's a cost of freedom. Some people could live with it, but he couldn't.
Ah. Asher. That's a name he hadn't uttered for a while. Not that he had forgotten, but simply because those he could talk to still carried a great deal of hurt from his passing.]
How old were you when you left Kirkwall? Is it nice being back? [He knows he's asking a lot of questions, but the thing is he isn't going to know more unless he does. He only knows general stuff about dwarves, mainly those from Orzammar during his weird... trip, and clearly that doesn't completely apply here.]
[OoC: Ugh, sorry. Thought I had responded to this. It's cool if you want to wrap things up for newer things]

He can't laugh. He wants to. Really fucking wants to and all the old words aren't-- where are they? Why can't find them?
What comes out is what Yngvi would charitably deem less than ideal afterwards. When he's more aware. But everything is a mess and he's angry and hurting and this strikes the rawest nerve that he has right now so he feels his jaw tighten before he speaks.]
Thanks, Sam, for just describing my whole life right there. 'Cept the regular meals bit and I went to the Gallows 'fore now so I know it was nicer than Darktown's ever been. What d'you think it's like when you're in the Carta? S'not a picnic. You got rules. Got harsh rules. Then all the rules for other men and women. Templars don't like you. Guards don't like you. Everyone in the Carta watches you and if you make an arse of things, doesn't matter what age you are, s'not pleasant. S'pretty far from pleasant. Folk end up there cause of their families but those families are underground and they'll stab you in the back but there's Dusttown. Also the Carta but Carta or the Deep Roads? Shag the wrong person and the baby isn't right? Go starve and stick a brand on the face of the brat.
[It comes out like bile, he can feel himself shaking from it and everyone says you lance a wound or it festers but what happens when you can't stop, when you can't get to a bandage to make it stop, when you don't know what a tourniquet is because no one ever taught you that because you were worthy of investment, yes, but there were always going to be more?
He has to breathe. For a while. Head between his knees rattling in his chest world blurring at the edges breathing.]
Dunno. I was...double digits when I was ready to be unleashed on the great beast of Kirkwall, learned all I needed to so she wouldn't know what hit her. Bit after that, like a decent bit? Hittin' my stride since I impressed Asher'n'all? [How does he say that he doesn't know how old he is and doesn't want to admit it, other people mustn't know exactly how old they are either, it wasn't the most important thing to him, he just gets another year older. Makes it through. Survives. Lessons serve him well enough.] Think I was 'bout the same age Asher was when he left home and we laughed after 'cause, right, me, him and Gunnar couldn't work out what was worse? How he left or that he scooped us up with a blessing or he wouldn't've made it far when the Arishok was rampaging.
[Teenager. Barely. Young. Buying time to answer the next bit because he didn't have the words for his childhood and now he does (sort of, it's hard a lot of the time, he's not the best with those sort of words and how to put them together) and he hates it.]
Fuckin' shit is what it is she's been invaded all over again and there's me forgettin' to write home to the family so I'm abducted for dinners and interrogations.

Though their lives are vastly different, there are definite similarities. Something to keep in mind, but right now it was probably best not to keep poking that particular subject. That isn't what this was all about after all.]
Invaded again? ... You mean the Inquisition?
[He's not going to comment about 'family dinners sound nice'. Even if it's something he wants, he's not sure if it's a good thing in this case?]

Is what it is. People I know, places I go? That's how they're seein' it. A thing they didn't ask for showin' up and movin' in and changin' things without anyone botherin' to ask 'em how they feel.
[Family dinner with the Carta isn't a family dinner. It's being trapped with no way out because you know there isn't one. There won't ever be one if your way out still dragged you back here in the end.]

[Unfortunately there wasn't a way to appease every single person, though this was the first time hearing their arrival as an invasion.]
And what about you, Yngvi? You feel that it is an invasion? I'm pretty sure we came with permission and the only reason we even came was because we needed a place further north to start fighting against Corypheus's forces.

Could go ask around in Orlais if you fancy putting that one to the test. [Carta doesn't always sign off on shit either but Yngvi's not going to go telling people how that one works because it's not for outsiders to know.] I'm one of the Boneflayers, Asher died but we wanted to honour the contract and see it through, I'm the one that took that up.
[Or that's the story people that aren't Gwen and Wren get.]

I agree, not everyone is going to agree or like it, but can't change that we're here now. All we can do is try and help each other at this time...
I'm sorry that people got hurt during it, that you lost some in the process.
