Right, gotta ask since it's been nigglin' me like a loose tooth for a bit now Inquisition, what d'you all know about dwarves? Rifters you don't get a free pass unless you fell out the skies yesterday, s'not like we're a rare sight but, y'know, 'specially since we've been here a while now and-- [there's a little edge to his voice, he coughs to clear that, can't sound like he gives a shit, just the damp and the smoke lingering yeah?] you've been with lots of dwarves. Lot of my family even!
Might get invited to Sunday dinner if you play your cards right but word to the wise, maybe don't? Politely decline. But not too polite yeah? [Don't know what you'll be served on a Darktown dinner table do you now?]

[He's phrasing this so badly it's so hard to make it sound like he doesn't give a shit when he does so badly it's choking him.]
no subject
A dwarf is not more amusing than human.
Unless, of course...
...that is what he is trying to be.
no subject
Like the whole 'all elves living in the city are flat-ears forgetting themselves' that kind of thinking, that sort of people being different from people.
[Yngvi you're embarrassing yourself by proving you have functioning ears and the ability to care about how often you've heard that one.]
no subject
Do dwarves not have so similar a conflict between those who live underground and those who have made their homes in the cities?
no subject
[Mysteriously, magically, all the things Orzammar needs just get there without the hands of the so-called surface caste (not that Yngvi would call himself that) getting involved. But he pauses, a loaded sort of silence as weighs up what he wants to say, waiting for people to go past him, waiting for his heart to stop being in his mouth and he should--
Shut up.
Laugh it off. Should absolutely not keep doing this but at least he can snort, sound like he's all casual, leaning against a good watching stoop.]
How much of a conflict is it when it's washing your hands? Always been the Orzammar way, we all get on fine up here but there's a bit Orzammar pretends don't exist, lot of the surface ones that don't make it to being rich come from there. Met many dwarves with tattoos on their face, more blocky than swirly Dalish things?
no subject
Is that, perhaps, what brought on your first question?
...Are you, perhaps, someone others pretend does not exist?
no subject
You've met me, like people can pretend I don't exist.
[I, singular. Just like he's going to take that you as singular, referring to Yngvi or maybe to Gunnar because Yngvi-and-Gunnar pretty much sharing everything until now.]
Mages bang a drum, Templars bang a drum, Dalish-- don't know what's a Dalish instrument can't be a drum that's too everyone else for them for this one, and then this isn't an elf thing-- [except it is, it's not too hard to put together how Yngvi feels about Dalish and Orzammar, and the alienage and the undercity and worse places, that sort of shared familiarity but he doesn't have the right words for it. Just a lot trapped somewhere in his chest and his throat that snarls up inside him and hurts.]
Dwarves sort out the lyrium, they get you it, they get rid of it, and that's it. [Maybe he would like to be a people, maybe he would kind of like that sort of luxury.]
no subject
[There's no malice in his voice, nor his usual faintly mocking tone. It's just a cold statement of fact.]
Is this the drum you will bang?
no subject
[Is this what it's like to be in your bones tired because Yngvi doesn't want that if it is.]
I'm here for the Boneflayers, we have a no instruments unless they're blunt policy. [Look he's going to try to keep wriggling for a bit, this is uncomfortable.] Think I can bang whatever one I feel like to be honest.
no subject
Though what those are, I cannot say.
Can you?
no subject
Some things are older than people are, mages got the Circles, elves got one mess then another, we've got everything that still goes back to Orzammar in some way.
Mate-- [and someone's flipped a switch, imagine if you will (not too hard mind, Yngvi doesn't care about his personal hygiene as much as he should) that he's leaning in real close] I can be the long lost heir of Arlathan and forgotten Thaigs all at once when I need to be, just that good.
no subject
Changes that mages or elves desire will be their own doing as most Templars or humans will not willingly change. As you say, tradition often comes at the detriment of reason.
[Or even basic empathy]
If there is something in your life you want changed, you will have to take the first steps to do so.
no subject
Yeah, thought I'd already done that. Then I'm here, legs kicked out from under me again; what happens when you leave and do a new thing and it's grand then that new thing drags you back into the old thing again but it's like someone swapped out your eyes?
no subject
With things as they are, what would you like to do?
no subject
As if it's that simple. As if it's ever been that simple. Will ever be that simple.]
Tangled? Nah, tangled is when you take a shortcut through an old really elven bit of forest where the trees come alive and trap you then the giant spiders come out to have a piece. [This is a thing that may or may not have happened, Yngvi is proud of making up his life as he goes along. It buys him time, it's always bought him time. Currency has always been more than just coin.]
Set fire to a few things but don't fancy where the Inquisition might try locking me up if I go doing that.
[He's only half-joking.]
no subject
[He can appreciate the sentiment about burning everything down, but he doubts it'll help much beyond making ngvi feel better for about five minutes before the city goes up like a powder keg.]
Have you made friends within the Inquisition?
no subject
Yes. Some.
[A few casual, one from before made stronger, maybe some he's realising weren't friendships at all but it balances out.]
