I never thought I would return to live in this city, of all places.

[Fenris sounds less than thrilled. But he’s at least trying out this ‘communication’ thing for once. Varric would be so proud.]

How do you know when you’re truly home? What makes that different from merely a place where you happen to live?

[Honestly curious here. He’d once thought he’d almost come close to that before in Kirkwall, but at the moment, he’s not so sure. Maybe there’s just something... off... about returning to a place after a long time away. So much changes and yet remains the same all at once.]

I can see that. Who knows where some roads might take you? You might find a new place to call home along the way...

Exactly. Starkhaven, it is my home but many have made other towns and cities feel just as welcoming. Yet, in the end, I know my soul will always be at peace when I am back home in Starkhaven.

Can I ask why Starkhaven in particular? [Though he can guess it has many positive qualities, the way that Sebastian spoke about it.] Is it because you grew up there that you're so attached? Or something else entirely?

[That's what he's assuming by the way she talks about it. Maybe that's why he's struggling with this whole notion... memories or not, he's never had that childhood home in quite the way others have.]

Well, part of it is because my father is there than simply because I grew up though I do have good memories. [ please never let her know that you know their prince, else there will a fangirl to deal with. ] I suppose wherever my father was, I could call that place home because I love him.

People, after all, are just as important in making a home.

Ah, that would explain it. You have someone you care for there. That's been mentioned by a few others... that 'home' may not have to be a physical location at all.

Mmm! Home is where the heart is... as they say, I believe. So it could very well be a person and not a place!

I see what you mean... and I'll... have to take that under consideration.
