I never thought I would return to live in this city, of all places.

[Fenris sounds less than thrilled. But he’s at least trying out this ‘communication’ thing for once. Varric would be so proud.]

How do you know when you’re truly home? What makes that different from merely a place where you happen to live?

[Honestly curious here. He’d once thought he’d almost come close to that before in Kirkwall, but at the moment, he’s not so sure. Maybe there’s just something... off... about returning to a place after a long time away. So much changes and yet remains the same all at once.]

Can you explain that a little further?

[He thinks he gets the idea... in theory. But it's not something he's experienced, exactly.]

You look up one day, and you realize you are in a place which used to mean something to you — and does not any longer. It was home, and now there must be another.

Then is it even possible to fully appreciate a place as 'home' while you're there? Or... once you become aware of what it means, does that mean you're already starting to lose touch with it?

When you find yourself thinking of it, rather than feeling? Dispassion indicates distance. Such things grow.

That's difficult to say. There once was a time when I very well might have considered it home, or I was starting to. Now I'm not so sure, since I was away for so long...
