How do you know there is a problem if you use it before anything happens? It should be used if there is a problem, and I hardly consider a mage not wanting to live in a Circle counts as being a good reason.

Can it be used if a mage is already possessed? There is no true way to know a mage will be possessed until they are, is there?

I don't see why it couldn't, though most of the time when that happens it's seen as being easier and quicker just to put them down.

There isn't. Even if someone said they found a way to know, I don't think it would be proper to condemn someone for something they have yet to do.

Easier and quicker, certainly. Perhaps even more humane. But that does not mean that either option is the correct one.
