NOTES: If anyone wants to assume past CR, even if it's just acquaintances or vaguely knowing about each other, it's all good with me. (Especially fellow Grey Wardens or Orlesians from noble families).

[The voice that speaks has a light Orlesian accent, it’s definitely something which he couldn’t ever entirely get rid of over the years. He also sounds deeply annoyed. Seriously, he comes here with such good intentions and this is how he’s treated? Sigh. Sometimes he questions his entire life path.]

Is this how you greet everyone who joins the Inquisition? By acting as if you've seen a demon? [To be fair, there was only the one person who'd screamed 'demon' and fled fast. Most people who’d given him odd looks had taken a second glance, then shrugged and moved on, and in a couple cases they even apologized for some sort of ‘mistake’ they’d made. It's apparently clear enough to them that he's not who they thought he was. Still, the more annoying incidents stand out.] I’ve a terrible feeling I’m being put through some sort of initiation ritual. Believe me, I had my fill of such things when joining the Grey Wardens.

For those I haven’t met, my name is Kain Ventfort, and I’ve just come from Griffon Wing Keep to add to your warrior forces. I’ve been looking for a better challenge than I’ve had lately. I’m told I’ll find what I’m seeking here. [Redemption. He’s seeking redemption, and he’s also seeking answers to a very specific problem, but those aren't things he’s about to address in public.] Perhaps even an encounter with a High Dragon someday? What I wouldn't give to see one of them up close...

No more than the usual, really. There are simply some deluded corners who are convinced that rifters are demons, and we've more rifters than anywhere else. As far as I know, we've most of them.

They're not though, or so I've been informed by someone I trust. That's good enough for me. But they all have those... glowing shards? Does that pose any sort of danger?

[Keeping his tone level and simply mildly curious.]

The shards cause them pain, and some of them can do some things with them. I've seen a beam shoot from one, heard of a shield from another, but those are easily trained from what I know.

[His voice is equally neutral.]

They're people carrying something they had no choice about.

[Which is very familiar.]

Right... those people were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

[He has a contemplative tone as he says this. It's not like it was a divine punishment for all of them or anything, right? Right. It's all pure coincidence.]

Though I wasn't aware the shards could do something like that. Those powers. That's fascinating. These people... nothing else terrible has happened to their hands, beyond that pain?

I'm sorry. As a healer who keeps confidences for his patients, I'd like to not go further into what the shards are doing to their bearers. It's nothing personal.

[He makes a little frustrated sigh, but...]

[...No. He doesn't dare say much more right now on the matter.]

Of course not. I won't ask that of you. As long as they seem to be here and thriving... I'll take that as a sign that they're no worse for wear.

[That's not exactly something he can say either.]

Suffice it to say they've support for what comes up, and I've learned how to help with that.

[That's good enough for him, at least, for what he's trying to find out in his weird indirect way. He doesn't even really know why he's holding back mentioning his own, the shards are common enough, and getting one is what prompted him to come to where they're being studied. But... there is concern over them, and he wants to avoid that. He just wants information that he can't get anywhere else.]

That's good to hear, at least, that they can be... dealt with. But no one's managed to remove them yet, have they?

I... Not that I've heard of, no. It seems like it might be dangerous.

I could imagine. Nor would such a thing be worth testing unless it's safe for certain. I hope that something can be done for their sakes, though, someday. It... must be uncomfortable.

I'd speak with someone who deals with the shards to find out more about it, personally. It's not my place to guess at their comfort level.

[Or to talk about them as if they can't hear this.]

Of course. Forgive me, I didn't mean to ask you such difficult things... It's just that I've never met a rifter or encountered anything like the shards before. I'm fascinated by all of it.

[He's wincing at the word choices as he thinks about how much Sina is struggling there.]

Perhaps try to put yourself in their shoes before you go asking too many questions.

Well...

[He almost starts to say something further... but no, he doesn't want any concern, and he just... hopes that ignoring it can make it go away somehow. He pauses.]

It could be worse. There are those who make those demon accusations, after all.

Yes. And despite the accusations, Rifters seem to have been mostly safe here in Skyhold.

[As far as he knows, any injuries have come after they've left, so techinically...]

That's good. After all, from what I've heard it seems they didn't ask to come here, to be involved in all of this. I only hope we can one day resolve their situation, shards and displacement from home included.

[He can't imagine being off on another world, completely separated from home like that. As for the shards... well, he has good reason to want them fixed.]
