[ thranduil sends his message later in the afternoon, his polite, deep voice precise and careful as he first greets, then settles down to the mear of the matter: ]
Good afternoon. I am Thranduil, a rifter, arrived last month. [ he pauses, to catch the attention of whomever might have their crystal nearby. ] I seek to return the hospitality shown to my son and I. I propose an archery contest, open to all residents of Skyhold. For the winner, fifty crowns. The next-best, twenty, and the third- ten.
[ where did he get the money? who knows shh. ]
Those interested should come to treeline in the valley on the eighth of Bloomingtide at noon.
[ he stops, as if he might be finished, but then: ]
And further, if anyone finds themselves able to beat my son, Legolas, I will offer them their choice of ring from my fingers. [ he sounds, already, terribly amused. ]
((ooc: SO this is mostly for thranduil and legolas to court allies. people are free to challenge him in an attempt to win a ring! but it is legolas shooting so. the money prizes will be rng'd.))

How did you come by that kind of cash so quickly?
[ He remembers Legolas though, and Thranduil kind of. They arrived together, right? He knew he had with with Legolas, and he sort of remembers another one, but he could be wrong. ]

[ kirk plz. ]

Not when it's a matter of curiosity, because clearly I have been doing something wrong.
[ He is not above it, especially when he could use new gear if he ever plans to get further than a few hours walk from Skyhold in the future. Such things take funds, Thranduil, not to mention attire that doesn't make him want to walk around naked for the scrathing or boots that won't fall apart. ]

I had several on my person.

[ Because seriously, Thranduil, finding a job here when you're from a future world is much harder than it sounds.
At least there's a tiny laugh at the end of that. ]

[ no one hires kings, do they? there's not a craigslist for that particular profession. you have his sympathies. ]

I am the captain of a ship, back home - a star ship. Most of the skills required of me for that don't really translate to well here, as I'm finding out.
[ To bad his people didn't use coinage anymore, or at least he had no reason to carry it aboard his ship. ]

[ this. this is a thing, in his world. this is not something lost in translation. from his tone, he's serious enough. ]
You were accorded that honor?
no subject
[ Clearly there is something lost in translation, a little bit. And it's a bit more complicated than what he's explaining, but who has time for that? ]
And I like to think I earned it.

[ clarity is very important. and he's curious, too. ]
It seems an honor, still.

[ It's as close as anyone else has come to understanding it, and space is technically a void, and his ship does sail through it. So, yes, very apt Thranduil. ]
It is. I inherited her from the former captain, a very dear friend of mine.
[ He's going to skate over all the terrible events that actually got him to that point, shall he? ]
