[ thranduil sends his message later in the afternoon, his polite, deep voice precise and careful as he first greets, then settles down to the mear of the matter: ]
Good afternoon. I am Thranduil, a rifter, arrived last month. [ he pauses, to catch the attention of whomever might have their crystal nearby. ] I seek to return the hospitality shown to my son and I. I propose an archery contest, open to all residents of Skyhold. For the winner, fifty crowns. The next-best, twenty, and the third- ten.
[ where did he get the money? who knows shh. ]
Those interested should come to treeline in the valley on the eighth of Bloomingtide at noon.
[ he stops, as if he might be finished, but then: ]
And further, if anyone finds themselves able to beat my son, Legolas, I will offer them their choice of ring from my fingers. [ he sounds, already, terribly amused. ]
((ooc: SO this is mostly for thranduil and legolas to court allies. people are free to challenge him in an attempt to win a ring! but it is legolas shooting so. the money prizes will be rng'd.))

This sounds like fun. If I'm allowed to participate? [There's a wavering note to his voice, as if he isn't quite sure he is, and almost like he might be talking to someone else, at the same time.]

[ it's impossible to miss that nervous edge in his tone, and thranduil responds with smoothness, a warmth in his tone. ]

Ah - I am, yes. Technically. I mean, I'm a Scout - still - so I guess that counts, right?
[There's a pause, a mumbled voice in the background, and then when Gavin speaks, it's with a smile behind it.]
Okay, good. Yes, I can come.

Oh - I, ah, was only just released from prison and I - well I have to be on my best behaviour, you know. There's a lot of things I'm not allowed to do.
[Like be around Galadriel, for one.]
And I'm not a Ser. [A slightly nervous laugh.] I don't think an elf has ever been a Ser. Now that I think about it.

[ he sounds duly impressed. galadriel would never accept that sort of help, but that someone tried at all! ]
The word I would use does not have a ... sister, in this tongue, so I am afraid I am left to use 'ser' or nothing at all. And someone who showed such kindness to my family is certainly deserving of some respect.

[Cousin? There's a stunned pause, and then:] I -- you're Galadriel's cousin? I-- I would not say 'daringly', exactly, so much as pathetically and miserably... [He trails off, clears his throat and then obviously is trying to smile through the next bit:] But, ah, I'll take whatever reputation I get, I guess.
You can just call me Gavin. You don't need a title, it's fine. [There's some elvish ones, terms of endearment, but.]

[ he'll still draw you the picture if asked. ]
Gavin, then. I look forward to thanking you in person for your efforts.
