[There is a sharp inhalation of breath, something pained, before Katniss speaks with a slight cracked to her voice.] Maxwell wanted you to know, all of you, that Gavin's been arrested.

Maxwell is going to try and speak with Gavin, to find out exactly what happened. Then he is going to the advisors. He's asked that no one do anything rash ... I think for Gavin's, and Galadriel's safety, that would be the wisest option.




Gavin of Clan Ashara has been arrested for trying to break Galadriel, the elven rifter, out of prison.

No, I haven't heard anything beyond the fact that he's been arrested.

And you'll have to speak to Maxwell about this. He's taking control of this. Not sure why ... but he is.

Well, the way things have been happening around here, it seems more likely that a human will get answers than any of us.

[ Her tone has a slight air of displeasure, but nothing too angry. She's putting herself into her Councilor mindset so she can think things through clearly and not become too emotional to do any good. ]

If he's volunteering, then we'll use him as a go-between for now.

[ It sounds far better to make it sound like they're allowing Maxwell to be involved rather than to admit that he is in fact taking control. ]

[ She resists sighing at recent events. But just barely. ]

Some of we Asharas and the Dahlasanors got together and wrote a letter to the advisers, asking what charges had been brought against Galadriel. Seeker Pentaghast wrote back that they don't explain their reasoning to just anybody who asks. Then she went on to say Galadriel's imprisonment clearly has no historical weight as she's not of this world and there would be no further statement released.

[You can't see it, Ellana, but Katniss's expression became pained.]

...I heard about the letter. Cyril asked my advice on what should be said in it. [Anger flashed through her voice.] How dare she - [Temper, Everdeen. Temper.] This isn't about 'historical weight'. It's about holding someone - an elf, a Rifter, a mage -- for a crime that they won't disclose to us. It smacks of Chantry oversight. The bad kind.

It's more that a human doesn't get to decide what holds historical weight to the elves and what doesn't. And yes, by holding her imprisoned without us knowing why, it makes us fearful that any elf could be held for imagined crimes. Or any mage. Or any rifter.

[Ellana always had a more elegant way of putting things. She truly envied her that.]

I can see what he means. Every moment she's locked up is another moment too long.

I can understand his impatience. [A sigh.] But this has helped no one ... at least now the Seeker sees that we're not just going to ignore it.

Gavin is.... He's a wonderful man and I adore him, but he tends to be impulsive. I hope we can do something to help him.
