CRYSTAL, POST-DREAM
FORM: Crystal + Anonymous Dropbox
SENDER: Erik Stevens & Wysteria Poppell
RECIPIENT: Everyone
NOTES: A scientific survey
[A (unfortunately?) familiar voice pipes up over the crystals; it has that brisk, hurried patter of someone intending to say quite a lot as quickly as possible to avoid interruption.]
Good afternoon to all agents of Riftwatch. This is Wysteria Poppell of the Research Division, Project Felandaris and Assistant to the Office of the Seneschal speaking alongside Mister Stevens of Diplomacy.
Yo.
In light of the recent shared dreamings experienced by those in the Gallows residence and the attempted communications by an alleged spirit of note, we have elected to co-sponsor a survey in an effort to sort, as it were, the proverbial wheat from the chaff.
So, like. Obviously people ain’t gonna want to get too personal on record about their dreams, especially ones like this, but we need to figure out. The things that everyone took from it. The repeating themes, the places, the details that we might lose over time. You ain't even gotta answer here; there's gonna be a drop box in the dining hall where you can submit answers anonymously.
Be aware however, [Wysteria pipes up again.] That the notes you submit will be compiled and available for reference by Riftwatch at large. We strongly encourage generalizing the specific details of the dream if that is what allows you to respond to the survey. It is vital, is it not Mister Stevens, that we receive as broad a sampling as possible for study.
The more folks who answer, the better an idea we've got of what needs our attention first and foremost. I know it's a lot to be asked to do this right away but it's real important. So yeah. Thanks.
Should you have any questions or require assistance reading the survey or penning your response, you are most welcome to reach out to one of us for assistance on the matter.

1. Please list any significant locations which you recall from your dream, and list in what way you believe them to be significant. Of particular importance: locations shared between individuals, particularly if you have never been there previously.
2. Please list any notable individuals who are not current members of Riftwatch who appeared in your dream.
3. Please describe the themes you believe to be most relevant to your dreams, if any seem particularly dominant.
4. Please submit an account of your dreamings. This may be as detailed or as abbreviated as you wish.
7. If you have anything additional of note which you believe may be relevant to the record which is not assessed by the above, please record it in this space:

A colourful street I do not recall. It was night time and there was a festival of kinds. Like a Satinalia evening.
I also remember the grounds of some noble estate. I was trying to find the way in the whole time but could not. It was distressing.
The last place I recall with certainty was my parents' home in Val Royeuax.
Many other places and locations that I can't summon to mind with accuracy.
2. Please list any notable individuals who are not current members of Riftwatch who appeared in your dream.
During the street part I was being bothered by an old woman who wished to tell me my fortunes. (The "spirit of note"?) She wanted payment in sapphires.
3. Please describe the themes you believe to be most relevant to your dreams, if any seem particularly dominant.
The sapphires felt significant.
4. Please submit an account of your dreamings. This may be as detailed or as abbreviated as you wish.
The street and festival/woman/sapphires.
Running away onto the estate grounds and trying to find the entryway.
It begins to rain! I do not mind it except that for some distinct reason I am aware my boots do not belong to me and I regret to ruin them.
But then I am home. Or perhaps it comes later. I cannot recall all elements of the dreaming. But I am then in my home from boyhood. Someone has painted all over the walls and I think that: mama would not like that at all.
I know more must happen but I could not pen down the strangeness. Something about a peacock?
5. If you are either a mage or late of the Templar Order, please briefly assess the nature of this dream in comparison to previous encounters with the Fade and/or demons and their passage or attempted passage from it which you may have previously experienced.
If we have need of a Templar's perspective, I could write my brother? Do you have particular questions? I am glad to assist in this.
6. If you are a Rifter, please relay any similarities between the dreaming world(s) and the one which you believe to be your own, if any exist.
I am a shard bearer and I did not experience any difference, although I would say the stress of my current situation means my dreaming has felt less restful than usual. There are certain teas that can help calm one's spirit in this way. I intend to have a small sampling delivered now that this notice has drawn my attention to my unease.
7. If you have anything additional of note which you believe may be relevant to the record which is not assessed by the above, please record it in this space:
I believe my dreaming was cut short as I normally rise well after the sun. However I had been staying with an acquaintance of mine and she has the most insufferable habit of rising very early for her vocalising. I did try to sleep further but she is an aspiring soprano. When I do not sleep to the fullest extent of my needs then I can often experience confusion between waking and dreaming and so I think this is why I cannot describe with accuracy the conclusion of that night's dreams.
If there is more detail you require please do not hesitate to send me a note.
Please also contact me if there is something in my dreaming I should be concerned for. Should we be on the look out for moments in waking that resemble the dreams? Are we in danger? Should we stay awake until we know what awaits us in our sleep?
Thank you for your services,
Florent Vascarelle

2. Please list any notable individuals who are not current members of Riftwatch who appeared in your dream. Appeared? None.
Mentioned?Actually wait. A Qunari warrior and a small, bald elf who looked like he just smelled something bad I guess.3. Please describe the themes you believe to be most relevant to your dreams, if any seem particularly dominant. None.
4. Please submit an account of your dreamings. This may be as detailed or as abbreviated as you wish. In one dream no one knew me or other Rifters I met. Corypheus had lost. Qunari attacking the far north? Second dream: some members of Riftwatch in the Kokari Wilds, swamp area. Corypheus won. Something about gates? Travel up the mountain, running into people that are also in Riftwatch but weren't in the swamp. Herald's spirit in Skyhold.

Haven, Skyhold, and parts of Orlais though I suspect the latter most to be a reference to Ghislain and the gate located there for the details of that region are sparse and largely interchangable; Orzammar was repeatedly referenced, but never materialized - a potential point of interest in the pursuit of additional gates, perhaps?
2. Please list any notable individuals who are not current members of Riftwatch who appeared in your dream.
A number of Venatori officers, largely unremarkable. I recall a prison commandant, but am unable to name or describe the individual.
3. Please describe the themes you believe to be most relevant to your dreams, if any seem particularly dominant.
Friendships and other close associations, struggle, loss, resilience in the face of growing threat. Conflicting perspectives, creation and destruction, generosity of spirit and reunions. Poor weather.
4. Please submit an account of your dreamings. This may be as detailed or as abbreviated as you wish.
Please see the attached documentation.
[Which consists of a sanitized and roughly anonymized account of the bulk of Wysteria's dreaming. It is long, detail oriented, and carefully scrubbed of anything so silly as emotional depth. Close colleagues escape captivity and on their road to freedom are reunited with a series of relationships from their past for good or for ill. The footnotes of the essay reference a wide variety of Thedosian mythology and folk tales, including drawing comparisons to Calenhad the Great's journey into Brecilian Forest and beyond.]
5. If you are either a mage or late of the Templar Order, please briefly assess the nature of this dream in comparison to previous encounters with the Fade and/or demons and their passage or attempted passage from it which you may have previously experienced.6. If you are a Rifter, please relay any similarities between the dreaming world(s) and the one which you believe to be your own, if any exist.
No similarities in terms of localed or persons.
7. If you have anything additional of note which you believe may be relevant to the record which is not assessed by the above, please record it in this space:
While I suspect a great deal of the details may be excused on the basis of the dreaming state, I would be remiss not to note a troubling expansion of certain mage talent adjacent abilities within the dreaming whose function was more typical to a Rifter world's than the magecraft of Thedas, and which are beyond the capabilities of this individual in the waking world. It may be coincidence entirely.

[ nerds coming thru. ]
When do you expect to make your findings available?

As it is, I suppose the results will depend on the rate at which surveys are returned and so on. But I trust I—and Mister Stevens, of course, [is a hasty addition.] —will be able to make a most general assessment within the fortnight. Less, were we to have more eyes on the thing.

Tell me, do you have some preliminary theories? I'm sure something inspired the pair of you.

Would you care to assist with the effort directly, Captain? I know you have a keen eye for stories, and in a particular kind of fashion this is not so removed from that.

A reader is not the same as a writer. And surely you understand how difficult it is to set down your innermost thoughts.
Perhaps you both can do the writing while I do the telling.

Then,]
I'm afraid not. Such is the importance of the project in addition to all our other work that time simply cannot be made to bend to allow for both of us to be working on the same statement at once.

This is very sad news. I shall have to see if I have the strength to overcome such a disappointment before I can promise to share my thoughts.
