NOTES: World State Update; with thanks to our benevolent overlords, threads on this post count for April AC because March is fake.

We've just received word from the Orlesian front line.

As I'm sure we're all aware, barring the fall of the Val Chevin blockade, there has been little movement from the front over the winter. Overland, the Orlesians have been dug in around Val Royeaux, and the same can said of the enemy force's occupation in Val Chevin, evacuated Montfort, and beyond. That said, it appears [a little arch; Riftwatch has been informed of the fact, not consulted] that with Spring approaching, the bulk of the allied army - including the Orlesian force, the Inquisition, and the scores Divine Beatrix has managed to train over the winter - has begun to make their move.

They mean to retake Montfort then proceed to recapture Ghislain, with the aim being to divide the Tevinter-Ander army and interrupt supply lines between Perendale and Val Chevin. Unsurprsingly, Corypheus' forces have responded in kind and the fighting has presently come to a head southwest of Montfort.

[Dry as kindling:]

If anyone else has exciting new plans for the Spring they'd like to share - re-papering your parlor, or the deployment of the half legion of foot soldiers you've been keeping in your back pocket -, I'm sure we'd all be delighted to hear them.

[ A little less of the lurking suspicion -- of a shared kind -- that she'd revealed with Thranduil, she says; ]

There came, with the standard offers of wages and training entitled to any imperial soldier, a proclamation. It read that if they joined the armies of Orlais, and fought with honour, they will be granted legal right to own property.

When the war is ended, anyway.

Interesting. We'd had reports that the Empress and the Marquise seemed to be negotiating something, but it seems news of this decree has yet to make its way to the court.

That may be a point in favor of its truth.

I think so. It is not out of character for the Marquise, to avoid the conventional channels of negotiation and attention, to get a thing accomplished.

[ A hint dry. Understatement. ]

She also does not have complete dominion over the armies of Orlais, I wouldn't think. There will be generals with opinions.

No doubt. But if the Empress has ordered it, there must be generals she is confident will obey. The more likely risk is they ensure elven soldiers are used only as arrow fodder.

The Marquise would not tolerate it.

[ --quietly, almost muttered, as opposed to bristling conviction. ]

And she would anticipate the danger. The likelihood.

True, by all accounts she is a master of the Game; easy to believe given her position. Likely she has considered the possibility and either found a solution or judged it a necessary risk.
