let's talk politics (crystal)

So -

[ Kitty sounds, in her usual mode, sensible and direct. ]

I've been listening, and I've not heard much chatting about the election of the Divine over the crystals, which makes me suspect that everyone's doing it privately. But it seems to me that this is the sort of thing which we ought to be talking about as honestly as possible.

So - who's the best candidate? In your opinions. And what can we do to make sure the dreadful ones don't win?

Here I was under the impression that we have no opinion.

[Ha ha ha, comedy.]

When I find that very particular man, I'll ask him and let you know what the answer is.

[Infuriating, he knows.]

I can only assume you have your own opinions on the matter. Or rather, someone like you must.

[A measured pause, maybe in which to let the air go out of the whole question. Eventually though, evidently unbothered by her hackles raised or otherwise:]

Only that most people should.
katabasis: (recall to your mind this conclusion)

[A sudden, sharp bark of laughter.]

Forgive me. I meant, someone-who-looks-and-thinks-like-you must have one.
katabasis: (the bait of pleasure)

[Ah, the Impetuous Youth.]

I'm shocked.

There are candidates who would benefit us more than others, yes.

[Hm.]

Setting aside the matter of Grand Cleric Clorentine and the fact that none of us will be casting a vote, my preference would be for the candidate from Cumberland. We could do with a sure hand Nevarra would rally behind.

In theory. Regardless of whether Agathe feels the same, that won't stop the Nevarrans from seeing it differently.

[A low noise. Not quite dissent, but--]

People are practiced at believing their security relies on the reach of their nation's arm. Whether it's reasonable or not, it's something that can be levered in either direction to our advantage.

Theoretically [as they are speaking purely in hypotheticals here in this open forum in front of the Maker and everyone], a Nevarran Divine marshals some order out of Nevarra long enough to turn their attention outward and reinforce the effort against Corypheus and the Venatori. Whether the fantasy of that order holds beyond that is debatable, but it benefits our work immediately without razing the whole continent under the weight of some Exalted March.

The path that could create for us a viable ally in Nevarra for the work we have at hand today.

The 'ally' part is more important than the 'Nevarra' part. Agathe is ambitious but cautious. She'll use the tools at hand but how do you think someone like that will be disposed toward an Inquisition full of mages and pirates and other undesirables? Elise would actually support our ends.

The Inquisition's arm in Kirkwall is hardly representative of it's entire body.

[No offense Coupe, but you're overseeing a fortress full of degenerates.]

Skyhold has hundreds more mages, but all the same. Easy to force it to shed those elements then, isn't it?
