I've been listening, and I've not heard much chatting about the election of the Divine over the crystals, which makes me suspect that everyone's doing it privately. But it seems to me that this is the sort of thing which we ought to be talking about as honestly as possible.

So - who's the best candidate? In your opinions. And what can we do to make sure the dreadful ones don't win?

Yeah, obviously, who's the best candidate in definitely-not-your-opinion, in someone-else-who-looks-and-sounds-and-talks-and-thinks-exactly-like-you's opinion.

I can only assume you have your own opinions on the matter. Or rather, someone like you must.

[ You'd think a prominent member of government would have Big Opinions about the government of any world he's stuck in. Mostly he feels like he hasn't been invited to sit at the table, which is frustrating first, disheartening second. And honestly, politics isn't why he's responding. He responds, knee-jerk, because the voice sounds familiar.

Does it? He doubts it immediately. Hadn't her voice been prettier? Strong, obviously, but more measured, passionate in a poetic way. Not this. This sounds more blunt, more dismissive. ]

Gertruda. [ Is the first name he remembers. Hastily, but trying to sound like it isn't: ] It's reasonable to approach dangerous, unexplained situations with caution. It shouldn't be held against her.

[ This is probably what it feels like to give a book report on a book you haven't actually read. Not that he knows what that's like. ]

[ That voice is a new one. And it raises a little twist of disgust in her gut. That accent sounds so precisely like so many dreadful people she's known that she can't help but feel that little twist of disgust.

But - He's not said anything wrong, or rude, so. She swallows the feeling back down. ]

There's not really much room for caution in a disaster, though, is there. If there's a house on fire, you don't stop to study the pattern of the flames.

[ Ah, well — that's a metaphor, obviously, but he did. Not to study the patterns, but he'd certainly done a lot of not running. ]

That's...a strong opinion. Why d'you like her so much?

I don't. She's the more likely of the less bads to do anything useful, and I see no point in humoring the rest.

The problem with peoples opinions is that they tend to not care very much about other people.

I'm not Andrastian, but Elise. She believes elves and mages are people.

I don't think that's true. That people's opinions don't take others into account and all that. I mean, you'll hear plenty of non-mage-non-elves supporting Elise, won't you.

--that the, um. Lack of discussion was out of respect of the Inquisition's stance. Which is one of neutrality.

Oh, honestly. Are you telling me that these crystals are secure enough that we can talk battle planning, but not secure enough to talk politics?

If we are being perfectly honest, I should rather prefer to discuss who each woman is considering for her Right Hand, and what we know of them.

A very good thought, given said Hand will be the one to enact her will in the world. Or someone's will, in Grand Cleric Clorentine's case-- I'd assume her choice to have nominated herself to that position.

Agathe. She is more progressive than some, and her flaws are more surmountable.

As for opposition to the less desired, I'm uncertain save that anything done better be low-key. The Inquisition can't afford to be seen as taking sides, and if that changes, many will support someone else simply to spite us. And that's the best case scenario.
