[ Beleth's voice is weary, tired but determined. This is a whole lot of shit going on at once, but it's her job to deal with information, and that's what she's doing. ]
Greetings, agents of the Inquisition. I know that current events have been...very chaotic, and especially dangerous. There are many things happening all at once, and information has been scattered, when it's available at all.
I understand that these events can feel overwhelming, and out of our control. I want to help by trying to shed as much light on what has happened as possible, in an attempt to help everyone understand and to cease any false rumors.
Several days ago, something happened in Minrathous. We're still trying to figure out how it happened, but the Venatori appear to have seized control of the city. Citizens were urged to remain in their homes--with violence used to coerce them, if necessary. City guards were seen searching for members of the Inquisition, and tried to apprehend anyone that they found.
On top of this, Corypheus came flying in on--on his dragon. [ Is it an archdemon? Did that get decided?? Who cares, it's big, ugly, and dangerous. ] And, um. Raised the palace significantly, before landing there. It seems that he's claimed it for himself at the moment, though he hasn't officially been declared leader.
Luckily, our contacts were able to set up three locations for members of the Inquisition to flee the city, and most of our agents have done so successfully. There are currently three groups from outside the city that are moving to meet up with them, and help them make their way back to the Gallows. I would like to thank everyone who has helped make this possible, and volunteered to aid in whatever way they could.
As of this moment, there are five people that have not been accounted for.
[ There are a few moments of papers shuffling. ]
The five people in question are:
Warden Kain Ventfort
Warden Inessa Serra
Adalia
Max
and...Gareth.
[ who sounds like a loser tbqh ]
This doesn't mean that we should expect the worst, of course. It just means that I haven't been able to confirm their current status. If anyone else has heard from them recently, please let me know as soon as possible, and I'll mark them down.
I would like to note that Ambassador Amsel, Provost Thrandul, and Duke de Coucy have been confirmed to have successfully fled Tevinter, as their status was unknown until recently.
[ Unfortunately they seem to have brought some kind of native tevinter pest along with them. ]

Beleth. That was nearly very correctly pronounced. I am impressed! And for what it is worth, I would have guessed, if pressed, that you are the only Beleth. You are certainly the first that I have ever met.
[And he says that like a compliment, so it must be a compliment, right.]
Now, tell me. Why would your mother give you a name more common, now. As a joke? An insult? A demonstration of 'hind-sight'?
no subject
[ Do what only a real Beleth would do: cry and drink wine. ]
Because Beleth is the name of a leader. And while I'm a leader here, my position amongst the Dalish is...somewhat less. It was given under the impression that I would become a mage.
[ Dryly, in a tone used for something that had once been a sore subject, but has been so sore for so long that a callous has developed: ]
It was, as you can tell, a mistaken impression.

[Your kind could mean a variety of things, here, but Val says it so smoothly and so warmly that it at least sounds kindly meant.]
I had no idea the name of Beleth carried such a weight of meaning to it. It is a title, then? Akin perhaps to lady or duchess? Does it confuse, when others of your kind come into your path? I will confess, of course, to knowing little of the Dalish... what would the correct word be? The primitive nature of... inheritance is not quite it. Tradition, but with the rudimentary edge. Ah, you take my meaning, I am sure.
Now, why was it thought that you would be a mage? Such a mistake seems not easy to make.

[ She's just going to choose to assume that 'your kind' is referring to Beleths as a whole, because she doesn't want to start an unpleasant argument. ]
It's not a title, it is simply...a strong name. [ For someone who was supposed to be strong, she doesn't add. Because she is well aware that she doesn't meet that criteria, but she knows better than to point that out. It would look like fishing for compliments. ] So Dalish are usually not confused. Though for what it's worth, before I joined the Inquisition, most of the Dalish who knew my name were of my Clan, and therefore knew the situation.
[ She weighs her thoughts before continuing. The subject itself is...rather sensitive, something that Val would not know if it kickdropped him in the head. Certainly not something she's spoken to very many people about. The fact that Val is the one who's managed to get the story is...something. ]
There were various reasons. My parents both had strong mage blood, and with twins, it seemed more likely than not one of us would have inherited it. My eyes were one of the reasons I was suspected to be the one. [ Purple--a color that usually came with magical abilities. ]

[But in a charming way. Man, the Dalish are quaint and weird.]
You know, Valentine is known to be a strong name in Orlais. It carries great weight to it. I have upheld it mightily, I think, and added to its renown.
And well do I know the deeply cloying and uncomfortable weight of expectation of a parent. Did your brother possess any of the magic you were suspected of, or did you both frustrate?
no subject
Well, if it makes any difference to you, you are, and I'm sure you will remain, my favorite Valentine.
[ Would would sound a lot weirder if there were a Saint Valentine with his whole day and whatnot running around. And would definitely change if she knew what RUDE thoughts he was thinking about the Dalish!! ]
Yes, my brother is a mage and currently serves as my mother's apprentice. [ Or he did, but that's a whole mess of Dalish politics that she is not involving Val in. ] So they were close, I suppose. Had a 50/50 chance of getting it right.
no subject
[And he does mean it. Whatever rude thoughts he might have of the Dalish, however bemused he is by them as a whole: Val genuinely likes Beleth.
So there's that at least.]
So, my brother is an unrepentant boil of a person. And more or less serves as an apprentice to the comte and his lady wife. I would love to tell him as much, except I would have to write him a letter to do so, and I would not be caught dead near him, so I would miss the expression that he would wear when he read such a thing of himself. What then would be the point?
The point I make in even speaking of him is that we are alike. Though I will assume your brother to be pleasant, at least. Less of a boil. Certainly in relation to you, he cannot be so pleasant. But for me, you are a high standard of measuring.
no subject
I could deliver the letter for you, and then describe his facial expression to my best ability. It’s not quite the same, but I’d try my best. Maybe once people figure out how to send pictures over crystals? Then you could see it, without having to be near him.
—But no, my brother is not a boil, though he can be...trying, at times. But I still love him, how could I not? He’s my twin. As for whether or not he’s as pleasant as I am...you've spoken to him before, Val. Though I appreciate the flattery, of course. If I recall, your conversation with him was...Something.
[ 'Something' is really the only way she can describe it. ]
no subject
[Hang on. Val is distracted from his musings a moment later.]
I have spoken to your brother? On what occasion?
no subject
[ HUFF!!! ]
no subject
Really? Him?
no subject
[ Her voice is dry enough to hint at just how she feels about this "elf thing" nonsense. ]
no subject
Truly?
no subject
Yes, we were very close. I was much quieter as a child, because I rarely needed to speak--Sorrel always knew what I wanted to say, and he would say it for me. Eventually, our mother kept us apart until I agreed to start speaking on my own.
no subject
How difficult that must have been to do. And how cruel, really. Surely it caused pain.
