Greetings, Inquisition, this is Scoutmaster Beleth Ashara. I'm back from my temporary leave of absence, due to an unfortunate injury that I have thankfully recovered from. I wish to express my deepest gratitude to everyone for their thoughts and prayers, [ To any deity, chill out ya nerds. ] and for their support during such a taxing period of time for me. I’m glad to report that said period is over, and that I have resumed my duties as leader of the Scouting Division.

And of course, a special thanks to Valentine...de Foncé, [ She is not rattling off that grocery list of names, thanks. ] and Kostos Averesch, for stepping up to help take care of matters and provide leadership for the Scouting Division while I was indisposed. You both did an admirable job, considering how little warning you got before an entire division was dropped on your laps.

Scouting assignments and missions will be resumed promptly, and if there’s anything that anyone has been waiting to speak to me, specifically, about, my office is open. And, of course, I can always be reached via the sending crystals.

[ There’s a pause, and then the formality in her voice drops. ]

Additionally, I’ll be expecting a report from everyone who temporarily defected from Scouting while i was absent, explaining why they cruelly abandoned me in my time of need, and cost the division a win in the tourney.

Um—Hello, this is for those of you who were present for my...episode. [ Her voice is still informal, tone rather awkward and very sheepish. How do you apologize for trying to kill people because you thought they were trying to kill you first. ] I want to offer my deepest, most sincere apologies to all of you, for my...horrid behavior. While it’s true that I was not myself, due to unforeseen and outside forces, what I did was...still absolutely awful.

I owe all of you, both for the restraint that you exercised during my episode, and for, ah. Your discretion afterwards. You have my unceasing gratitude, and if there’s anything I can do to make it up to you, please let me know.

Oh, I attended, but I was not quite fully recovered, so it was not as Scoutmaster.

Besides, attending the tourney isn’t quite as important as winning the tourney.

...anyway. I would welcome a few moments of your time, at some point, Scoutmaster. It's not urgent.

[ Beleth doesn’t press the issue. She’s well aware of what Val can be like, especially to people who don’t know him very well. ]

I'm not very used to staying in cities all the time. I'm a wanderer at home, and there was some discomfort expressed, among Inquisition members, when I suggested I'd like to do the same here. But one of them recommended your division, because it would let me travel more...officially, I suppose.

[ A pause. ]

I'm a rifter, I should make that clear. I've not actually joined the Inquisition, and I'm not sure that I...well. I wasn't considering it before I talked to Salvio about this, you see.

I...understand what that's like. The Dalish--my people--are nomadic, by necessity. Kirkwall is the first city that I've stayed in before, and there is a period of adjustment.

[ Her tone is gentle, and stays gentle, but firm, as she continues. ]

I think that I'd also recommend against trying to travel on your own. Even if you could handle the discomfort from the anchor, people outside of the Inquisition are often...wary of rifters. [ To put it mildly. ] But I think that you're correct, short scouting trips for the division would be a good compromise.

However, to join the Scouting division, you need to join the Inquisition proper. Which isn't as daunting as it sounds, I assure you. There are plenty of benefits to it, and if you don't find it to your liking, you can quit at any time. But we'd be glad to have you, for what it's worth.

[ It's enormously relieving to hear that someone understands. Especially someone from here, as opposed to the others from Faerun who have always understood. He sighs. ]

It's a little daunting. I've never been part of anything so organised, before.

[ That's the best way to put it. Aro has only ever had to answer to himself, and in his youth, his mother. Taking orders from a chain of command feels very different. ]

I do want to help, though. When I said I wanted to travel, a lot of people assumed that I didn't. Can I ask, is there a particular project where you might need an extra hand?

Well, any scouting you do will be pretty helpful, of course. As for projects, I only have two under my purview, but both Nothern Powers and Elven Artifacts could use a hand. You know Adalia, correct? She's helping my brother with that.

I know this can feel overwhelming, but take your time. And of course, you can come to me if you need anything.

[ In fairness, it would make him feel better to be around someone he trusts. He certainly trusts her, being the only other dragon keeper here, and another sorcerer who understands the world he's from. They have plenty in common. ]

Yes, she's a good friend. I'd trust her judgment. Thank you, Scoutmaster Beleth, I'll certainly give this more thought. It's…nice, to find someone so understanding.

[ TECHNICALLY, they aren't the only ones. But 'dragon keeper' might be a bit generous for Beleth, since Kolgrim is just a magically tiny version of Thedas dragons, and thus acts more like a half-feral cat with flame breath than anything else. ]
