( A quiet clearing of the throat; one can naturally assume it is a very beautiful clearing of the throat, done by a very beautiful man. )

This matter of the phylacteries for rifters… it seems sensible. If they are such a valuable resource to the Inquisition, the closing of rifts, and so on, being able to find said resource if a rival power were to try and overpower them and abscond with them makes sense, I think. For their own safety, for our own safety. If Corypheus and his forces were, for example, to make an attack on a party closing a rift and kidnap those rifters for nefarious purposes, it would be better for all if we were able to find them as quickly as possible. The phylacteries are an established way of doing just this, no?

By all means, if you wish to see the world end, protest. Even if this is not your world, though, I think we can all agree that you are currently in it. It’s fate is not entirely irrelevant to you.

Phylacteries are a way to find people who get lost? Who're taken?

They're not stealing freedom away or chaining people somewhere?

Dolores, you know how the southern newspapers would talk about how good things were down south, and how the Union was evil and stepping all over their rights? And how the War was "Northern Aggression" and the heroic southern boys protecting the States autonomy? And they very carefully never mentioned exactly WHICH right they were so concerned about keeping?

That is what he's saying, essentially, it's propaganda.
somethingyettocome: Dolores looks horrified. (Daddy?)

Wait, they want to make us slaves?

[She could not sound more horrified.]

Potentially slaves. Slaves without chains, overhead, watching you, waiting for you to displease them, and then they yank on their spells to bring you to heel. But never with something as crass and obvious as chains.

That sounds like a living hell!

Slavery is quite illegal in all civilized parts of Thedas and has been for centuries. The Inquisition devotes a not-inconsiderable portion of its resources to combatting those who would sell others into bondage. It is utterly absurd to suggest it would now take up the practice itself.

Alright then. Suppose I came to you and put a gun to your head...Sorry, a sword to your throat. And then just stood there. "I'm just here to keep track of you! Nothing else, just to know where you are at all times. The sword? What sword? Oh! This sword. It's just here in case someone else, not YOU of course, someone else does something bad. But you'd never do anything bad right? Right, of course not! By the way, we have a mission for you. It's totally voluntary, but gosh, we sure would appreciate it if you would do it."

If you really don't see how that's slavery? Then you're more naive than I thought, which, I will admit, would be impressive.
