crystal.

FORM: Crystal
SENDER: Alistair
RECIPIENT: Everybody everywhere
WHAT: Road games for everyone including those not on the road
WHEN: On the long trip from the Sunless Lands back to Kirkwall
NOTES: (1) Please threadjack and post your own would-you-rather top levels to your heart's content. (2) I think new rifters won't have their own official crystals until they get back to Kirkwall but please just have them participate over someone's shoulder or whatever else for fun.

I'm not actually walking across Ferelden again, because I'm not allowed to be in Ferelden, but if I were, you know, I think I would deserve some kind of medal. The Medal of Trudging. Awarded for walking clear across a country way too many times.

Anyway.

[ Anyway. The unspoken point is that he is bored, and it's time for a game. ]

Would you rather— [ continued in comments for organization's sake. ]

I think — I think if you go splitting hairs on types. That maybe it gets easier, you know. To start saying what counts, and what doesn’t.

[ all those dead people behind them, and who will count them at all? he doesn’t like to think of it. doesn’t like to remember — half a fevered blue nightmare ago — asking solas: would it be better if he died?

with a thin layer of cheer suddenly spread over an obvious segue:
]

They've got beds in Kirkwall, fancy ones. We'll all sleep like kings soon.

[On his end, Newt winces. He's familiar with such ways of thinking, of course.]

Well, in general, murder is murder, no matter its type or whether or not people believe it counts or not.

[But he definitely jumps at the sudden change of topic.]

That fancy, then, these beds?

Oh, yeah. Mattresses and everything. You can get your own room, too. It's so giant, not everyone's even in the same building — only that gets to be a bit of a pain, and being alone'd get lonely, I think.

I admit, I will take sleeping on plain straw, at this point. Mattresses sound like absolute heaven right now.

I'm alright by myself. I've been on my own a long time.

I don't suppose there are baths where we're going to?

Huge tubs of them! And they heat it up. Makes it almost worth needing one. [ but a pause, ] Just because you can be alone doesn't mean you've got to be.

I think I can honestly say that after all this time spent out in the snow, I have never been so happy at the prospect of a warm bath.

[He smiles to himself on his end of the crystal connection.]

I would have argued otherwise, once. But I've come to see since that there are distinctly better ways to go about things than being on one's own.

Still. If it comes down to it, I'm used to my own company.

Well if you ever get tired of it, no one's moved into Theo's old bunk yet. [ his voice lowers, as though imparting a secret: ] I took the blankets, since he's not using them, so whatever room you get told to go to — just ask for Finch, if it's not set up proper.

[Newt lowers his own voice, assuming that this shared information is secret on some level.]

Duly noted. I'll keep that in mind, thank you.
