FORM: Crystal
SENDER: Steve Rogers ( [personal profile] uniform )
RECIPIENT: Leadership council, Wardens, and anyone it'd be fun for the crystals to malfunction for
NOTES: Per this ooc thread and this log.

Grey Wardens, this is Steve Rogers, speaking on behalf of the leadership council. [ in full captain rogers mission voice, no less—this is serious. ] We've received intel from one of our scouts regarding enemy movements in the Hossberg Wetlands area of the Anderfels, including the possible involvement of a Warden fortress. It may be called "the Cauldron", but we haven't had that confirmed yet. It's the best shot we've had to get to Corypheus in a long time, but there's a lot we don't know about the area. That's where you come in.

I know your order values its secrets. But any information you can provide on this fortress could be the thing that wins this war, and breaks Corypheus' hold on the rest of the Wardens. Whatever you know, we're relying on you to share it with us.

NOTES: The start of the Chantry visitors plot! Anyone in diplomacy can answer questions in the comments based on that plot write-up.

Riftwatch, hello. I have an announcement as a representative of Diplomacy that affects us all, so please listen carefully.

[ while she's usually relatively chipper, or at least positive on the crystals, today ness sounds serious. one might say dour, even. ]

As you know, there have been some unsavoury rumours spread about our organization in recent months. There's no truth to them, of course, and the continent should have larger things to concern themselves with than baseless gossip spurred by poorly-researched fiction about a group as small as ours... but as we also know, common sense is in short supply these days. The Divine herself seems to have expressed concerns about our activities, and this has put us in a... very difficult position.

[ a deep, deep sigh; it seems that a difficult position may be something of an understatement. ]

I'll not beat around the bush. We have been strongly encouraged to accept a group of Chantry-affiliated guests for a long-term visit. The text of this visit is that these guests will be able to observe and report to the faithful as well as the Divine that Monsieur Ouebbre's imagination got away from him, and the play was merely an exaggerated flight of fancy. The subtext was that if we do not accept these guests, we are confirming we have something to hide, and the Divine may be persuaded to focus more of her attention on us. It is thus unfortunately better in the long-term to accept these guests than to risk disruptions to our war efforts.

There will be three guests joining us: a templar, a Sister, and a Brother, who will each be arriving separately in the next few weeks. Diplomacy will provide more information as we are able, and if you have any questions, we will be answering them to the best of our ability.

This will be a temporary measure, I assure you all. Thank you for your understanding.

SENDER: Talin ( [personal profile] dirthsal )
RECIPIENT: Everyone
NOTES: N/A

Riftwatch.

[ he's been here a year and this is somehow his first public address to the crystals. there's a reason for that; talin sounds distinctly uncomfortable. ]

The weather's begun to turn, and many in Kirkwall's poorer districts are not prepared, particularly in the Alienage. I'm going to be spending my off hours assisting them with home repairs, labor, whatever tasks are asked of me. If you'd care to join me, I know they'd be grateful for the help—if you can sew, in particular, or darn clothes.

I wouldn't recommend anyone approach the alienage without an elven escort, but I'm willing to make introductions. Let me know when you're free and I'll make time.

[ the crystal turns off, and then, belatedly— ]

Thank you.

FORM: Crystal
SENDER: Cosima and Gela
RECIPIENT: Everybody!
NOTES: Relevant to this bit of ooc news. A spreadsheet is coming (threat).

Hello Riftwatch, (is Gela, sunny and bright as always.) Hope you're well! We — Cosima and I, hi Cosima! — have some division head business to discuss with all of you, most of it good and only a little tiny bit bad, so bad is going first.

We have been talking about it all and we think that having two of us all the way up here, (top of the towers today, sitting importantly in Cosima’s office,) is actually a bit lonely and maybe even unhelpful! And instead of filling the places that have been left behind we have a proposition, which is the good news bit.

Right, and like … I’m confident in my own experience, but there’s a lot of parts of Riftwatch that are solidly outside my wheelhouse. I’m not qualified to run anything combat-related for one. But. We’re a leaner organization than we’ve been for a while, and I think it makes sense to widen the leadership structure. Gela and I have talked about it, and we want to implement a wider leadership council, one with more than four seats and one that isn’t so rigidly divided by area of focus.

The idea is that people will be able to weigh in more easily and whenever they want to. We want to make it a more collaborative process!

For now, I think we’ll start with volunteers who are interested in getting involved in organizational strategy. Once we have an initial group, we can decide together if we want to implement rules about adding or replacing people in the future. For now we just want to keep things moving in a way that makes sense.

Cosima will be chairing the new system. I am off back home to Nevarra for a bit — which is something that seems like bad news but is actually good news! Obviously I’ll keep in touch.

Yeah. Any immediate questions, you can direct to both of us, Gela’s not leaving right this minute. But I plan to do sort of a moderating, tie-breaking sort of thing for the time being, at least while we get on our feet. Looking forward to hearing your ideas. Let me know if you’re interested, and if we have way too many or way too few volunteers, I’ll keep you posted on next steps.

FORM: crystal
SENDER: rowena macleod
RECIPIENT: all
NOTES: some conversations may lead to conversations about death. also action responders are free to assume a mini set-up conversation to have agreed to meet rowena somewhere for said drink!

I've spent much of the time since I was brought through a rift researching. The studies of magic, the manifestations of spirits, and the plants native to this world have been particular topics of interest. Surprisingly, it has been spirits that I've seen the most of since my arrival.

( rowena pauses, deciding for a moment how to continue )

I know some details regarding the Fade and of demons. I'd rather more like to hear your views on spirits, even the wisps that have appeared. If we die, do we become them as we are now here?

( it isn't her original question but she can't bring herself to ask the original question )

I wouldn't be opposed to this conversation over a drink instead.

( it feels appropriate )

FORM: crystal
SENDER: Benedict
RECIPIENT: everyone, whether they like it or not
NOTES: that's right I'm following up!
think of this like a signup sheet, if your character expresses interest I'll either write up a small log or send you a blurb on what they witnessed at the show, for you to do with as you see fit.

Good afternoon, Riftwatch.

[Benedict's lack of enthusiasm is palpable,]

We have received a missive from the office of playwright André L’Euilled Ouebbre informing us that the play for which we were interviewed last year has been. Um. Written. And complementary tickets are available to any among us who would like to make the trip to Val Royeaux.

The missive goes on to say that... the production is well-received by critics in its previews, and certain to be a huge hit. World-renowned Royan actor Timothée Chalemet is said to be captivating and heartbreaking in the role of,

[a pause as he processes what he's reading,]

Tav,

and the stage effects are second to none in their daring modernity.

[hm]

If you'd like a ticket for some reason, speak to me now or come find me in my office. The public premier is next month.

Riftwatch, [ brightly, someone has a new project she's set herself on, ] two questions, if you'll indulge me—

First, what is your favourite place in Thedas? Second, I have a project in mind for Archives. Please let me know if you would be amenable to participating in a series of interviews relating to your experiences in Riftwatch—particularly those among us who have been here for years, though all stories are welcomed.

FORM: Crystal
SENDER: Gela
RECIPIENT: All
NOTES: Discussion of events that went down at Yvoire

If your house and most of your town had been destroyed by, say — demons, corpses and a magically established barrier-dome (inhale,) what is something you could receive that may ease a bit of that discomfort?

(Officially sourcing ideas for: a little treat)

FORM: Sending crystal plus (see notes).
SENDER: Cosima
RECIPIENT: Rifters (others opt-in)
NOTES: Catch-all for threads about amputation (so content warning for that being discussed, though I don't expect anything too bloody). Happy to match prose or brackets, as ever. See further notes under the cut.

FORM: Crystal
SENDER: Connor ([personal profile] catathymic)
RECIPIENT: Everyone
NOTES: None!

[ it's around midday when a hesitant, distinctly fereldan voice comes over everyone's crystals. ]

Grood day, Riftwatch. My name is Connor, I'm a... guest of your organization. I have a question for... well, anyone who will answer me.

You're all here to fight Corypheus and his cultists, but there are a number of organizations, institutions, even nations arrayed against him already. You could have joined an army, or been an agent of the Maker's divine will in the Exalted March. Why did you choose Riftwatch? What brought you here, specifically?

And... I know there are those who have to stay here. You with the anchor shards, like the Herald, Maker rest her, and... Rifters.

[ still not sure you all aren't demons, honestly, but if the chantry says you're not... ]

Would you leave, if you could? Join an army, or the March? Or even just... flee to the furthest reaches of Thedas and hope the war didn't find you?

[ a long, uncomfortable pause. ]

Also. If anyone has... odd jobs. Paying, that is. Or a line on a local business in need of a temporary employee. I would appreciate any leads to that effect.

[ awkwardly, ] Thank you.
