How do you -- Am I doing this right? Is it recording or whatever it's supposed to be doing?

Oh - cool - uh - Hear ye, hear ye or whatever people around here say to get people's attention en masse. A lot of you don't know me, like most of you, actually, but - my name's Chloe and I've got two questions for the lot of you.

First - does anyone know the place I could get some clay? Or, like, maybe some small stones would work too if I had something I could sand them down nice and smooth with. Preferably for cheap, because - y'know - not made of money here or anything.

Secondly, and more importantly I guess, there's this. Thing. I do back home. They're called Tabletop Role Playing Games and they're kinda cool. I had fun with them, anyway. A lot of fun. It's probably pretty pointless around here because you guys practically live the plots I used to play out with people, but --

Fuck, okay, the point of the game was that a group of people all make up characters for themselves using different races and classes, all of which came with varying degrees of points in certain areas like charisma, strength, intelligence, et cetera - and you chose like. Imaginary weapons and gear and then you went on adventures, led by your Game Master, who would help to guide you through the ... whatever land you were in, I guess. Along the way you'd battle these monsters - kinda like the shit I saw when I came through the rift thing? Less cool in person, by the way - and you would gather experience points and make your character stronger as you went.

The point is, it's fun, and I was thinking --

I mean, if anyone wants to play with me - maybe - I could... Make that a thing. I can make all the stuff we'd need to get a good game going, it won't take me too long. A week or so, probably.

So if you're interested, let me know. It'd be ... nice. To have something from home in this place.

Well, [still audibly smiling,] I don't know what that is, but it all sounds very exciting! Do let me know if you'd like a costume too? I'm fairly sure I could pull something together, there are so many old bits of drapery hanging around the Gallows that no one is using.

[that probably doesn't mean Fern has permission to repurpose said draperies for the purposes of Thedosian cosplay, but just try and stop her at this point.]

[ Oh God. OH GOD. She wants to say that she would look ridiculous in a costume, but it would imply that Fern would also look ridiculous in a costume, and now she's trapped. FuuuUuUuUUUUCK THIS IS LIKE THE PLAY ALL OVER AGAIN ]

I mean, don't go to any trouble or anything. I'm just the Game Master for now, I don't even know I'll really get to play my own characters while I teach everyone.

Oh, [she replies, and sounds almost disappointed. Maybe she'd been getting her hopes up a bit--but that would be a silly thing to do, this is just a game after all.]

Game Master? [she repeats instead.] But if you're in charge of the game, shouldn't that mean you get to play it however you like?

[ Shit shiT SHIT SHIT BACK UP, get rid of that disappointed voice IMMEDIATELY. ] Uhhh - but - I mean - maybe we could make up like - a Game Master costume or something! Or I could always dress up as Callamastia I guess, she'd be a pretty Large And In Charge kinda person anyway. [ No please God don't make her wear that outfit, why is she suggesting this, STOP. TALKING. ]

Well it should work that way, [she decides, huffing, but her confusion over the rules is immediately overruled by the possibility of a costume--]

Who's Callamastia? I hope she's not too tall, [sounding worried,] I may not be able to find enough drapes.

A Game Master is like. The storyteller? They create the world and the base of the adventure and control everything within the game except for the actions of the characters being played. So like - I would play the monsters people run into and narrate the challenges and then you guys would pick options on how your character reacts and I'd have to alter the story to go with those actions. A narrator, I guess, more than a playable person.

[ ... Dammit. She hates everything and has many regrets. ] Well, she'd be... my height, I guess, since I'd be dressed up as her. But - she's like - um. Fuck. She's the character I played back home. An elf barbarian who dives head first into danger and is willing to sacrifice anything for her team mates, including her own life.

[there's a pause. then, with a smile quite audible in her voice,]

...well, she sounds quite heroic to me. [pause.] I'll definitely find enough drapes.

[ just fucking kill her where she stands. ] C-Cool... I've got some pictures I drew of her, if you want them. Uh - you shouldn't to worry too much about finding enough fabric.
