How do you -- Am I doing this right? Is it recording or whatever it's supposed to be doing?

Oh - cool - uh - Hear ye, hear ye or whatever people around here say to get people's attention en masse. A lot of you don't know me, like most of you, actually, but - my name's Chloe and I've got two questions for the lot of you.

First - does anyone know the place I could get some clay? Or, like, maybe some small stones would work too if I had something I could sand them down nice and smooth with. Preferably for cheap, because - y'know - not made of money here or anything.

Secondly, and more importantly I guess, there's this. Thing. I do back home. They're called Tabletop Role Playing Games and they're kinda cool. I had fun with them, anyway. A lot of fun. It's probably pretty pointless around here because you guys practically live the plots I used to play out with people, but --

Fuck, okay, the point of the game was that a group of people all make up characters for themselves using different races and classes, all of which came with varying degrees of points in certain areas like charisma, strength, intelligence, et cetera - and you chose like. Imaginary weapons and gear and then you went on adventures, led by your Game Master, who would help to guide you through the ... whatever land you were in, I guess. Along the way you'd battle these monsters - kinda like the shit I saw when I came through the rift thing? Less cool in person, by the way - and you would gather experience points and make your character stronger as you went.

The point is, it's fun, and I was thinking --

I mean, if anyone wants to play with me - maybe - I could... Make that a thing. I can make all the stuff we'd need to get a good game going, it won't take me too long. A week or so, probably.

So if you're interested, let me know. It'd be ... nice. To have something from home in this place.

... Whatever. Peace.

I see... So, if this whole Corypheus thing were a game you were playing, would it be a campaign?

the meta is real: a d&d character talking to a video game character about a video game's plotline AS A D&D CAMPAIGN.

Shall we sit down and write one down together? Or... I suppose you could do it yourself, really.

though adalia sounds very disappointed by the idea.

if you could hear a fistpump, this is where the sound of one would go.

Great! I mean. I'd be happy to help. I have good handwriting and taking notes like that is very relaxing for me. Any time you have a moment free and want to get this stuff noted down, I'd be happy to come along so you don't get bored.

Well, when you grow up in a library, your sense of fun and relaxation tends to get skewed in a certain direction. I also find objectively boring research very fun.

at least she's self-aware...?

Alright, well, usually I spend my library time doing the aforementioned objectively boring research, but how about we meet tomorrow in the library? Do you think this will take more than a day?

it's... weird to agree with someone, but not, and also feel compelled to defend a thing you wouldn't have really wanted to defend before. adalia's struck dumb for a moment, not sure whether to agree with chloe or defend candlekeep or what. eventually, she settles on

It wasn't a real home, but I was a lot more fortunate than most other orphans would have been. Better a library than the streets, right?

it's like the circles here — not a home, more restrictive than maybe necessary, but you're safe from the elements, you're fed, you're educated. not many other people have that as a given, in the end.

Oh, no, I was going to tell you not to let me go on tangents where I ask you about everything you say that's unfamiliar! ❰ they're going to be in the library a while, probably.

Probably.

there's a laugh, and adalia's smile is audible in her voice.

A whole day it is. I'll go to the library first thing, come find me when you're ready!
