FORM: Crystal
SENDER: Fenris
RECIPIENT: Everyone!
WHAT: Something he's been wondering about regarding rift items
WHEN: Now
WHERE: Kirkwall
NOTES: N/A

I've heard it's possible for the rifts to release items, just the same as people... Is it true that it's been a wide range of items, both mundane and unusual?

For anyone who's come across an object from a rift... What exactly did you find? Has that item changed any since then? Does it behave as expected? [He really wants to find out if there are a bunch of freaky enchanted things just laying around, like time bombs waiting to explode. Well, you never know...]

Oh, yeah, I have one of those. It's a backpack that can hold a shit-ton of things, but it's always lightweight. Whatever I'm searching for always seems to be within easy reach. Pretty convenient, all things considered.

It hasn't changed at all, that I've noticed.

I think if it was going to backfire, I would have noticed by now. If it survived being spat out of a rift intact, it's probably alright.

And no, it's not any magic I was taught. Maybe the Tranquil would say differently, but I've never heard of them enchanting backpacks, at least.

I didn't find anything myself, but a friend of mine who's since gone did. It was mainly food from the world she and I are from. No noticeable ill effects from eating it, on her or me.

I think so. Or a good enough imitation you can't distinguish it without special equipment. It tasted great -- Thedas really needs to get on inventing peanut butter.

For what it's work, I'm pretty sure my roommate had some too; unlike my friend and I, she's a native without an anchor shard. But it's been a while, so I'm not 100% sure of that part.

Can I ask why you're asking?

You know ... I haven't found anything that's fallen out of a rift.

[She's rather disappointed now.]

Despite the need to close them because of the demons - I would rather like to see if there are enchanted objects about. They might help with my corruption research.

[They are, after all, items from the Fade itself.]

Do you want to go treasure hunting?

I am not sure I would either ... but I would be happy to at least study it.

[She makes a soft noise of thoughtfulness, before she stated calmly.] I agree - but until we get more actual Rifters, I don't know how we will get them closed without them.

[A quiet smile.] Thank you, Fenris.

Fancy underthings.

[ He sounds very proud. ]

I think they behaved as expected, but you'd have to ask all the women I gave them to to make sure.

The rift in your house spit out a full set of armor at me. Thankfully in was light armor, or I would have been pretty bruised. It seems fine. At least, it hasn't tried to eat me while wearing it yet.

Not that the blacksmiths know of. It's definitely enchanted, and the bird symbol on it doesn't suggest any group that I'm aware of either.

I didn't come across it myself, but I bought a crate full of alcohol from a merchant who said it came through a rift. It doesn't appear that he was lying since my roommate confirmed they came from his world.

None of the bottles or their contents have changed from my knowledge, and work as intended.

Indeed. There's plenty of packaging around them, but it is surprising they're intact. Course I wouldn't have bought broken bottles if they were. But no, no foul magic that I can sense, or have noticed. So far I haven't noticed inanimate objects having issues.

Unless they're of... certain 'technology'. [Or so Kirk and a few others have pointed out.]

The idea of alcohol doesn't seem different, but from what we've opened, I'd say tastes better then most drinks we have.

I found shoes with wheels on the bottom, so you can just kinda push yourself off against something and go zooming along.

It...isn't magical, or anything. It's just kinda fun. Certainly hasn't done any weird changing. Behaves like you'd imagine a pair of shoes with wheels to behave like.
unbrokenoath: (Hmmm)

[personal profile] unbrokenoath 2017-09-03 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
No, not really. I mess around with them in the Gallows sometimes, but until I get better at using them, I'm not going to risk a diplomatic incident by running over some random Kirkwall citizen.

If they have any enchantments, I haven't found them yet. Maybe there's one that makes the skates introduce my face to the pavement more than usual. Or one that'd cause me to burst into flames if I try it during the harvest moon? Sprout wings if I jump off a cliff with them? Who knows.

[ She sounds remarkably nonchalant about the potential. ]

Pages, printed with a variety of words and images. The make was unfamiliar — the parchment smooth and thin, the images unnervingly realistic. However, I am unaware of them exhibiting any other unusual properties.

To my knowledge, all entrances of Rifted persons have been accompanied by objects. The clothing upon their bodies, at the least.
