I was practising with the stupid fucking shield today and Alistair has a head wound, so I don't know that that's such a fantastic idea.

I don't intend to be anywhere you would need a shield. For the record. Under any circumstances.

So, what. You're just going to stay in your room?

If the rest of the fortress is suddenly not safe to walk about without a shield, then yes, obviously I am going to stay in my room.

[He scoffs, quietly.]

What, exactly, is stupid about noncombatants trying not to wander blindly into the middle of combat?

No, the stupid part is you hiding out in your room. If that's really your plan, I'm telling you now, it's stupid.

And you don't have to be a noncombatant, you know. That's why I said the part about training. You get to know what you're doing and you won't be wandering blindly anymore.

Of course I wasn't planning to do that. You're the one who said it, I said if Skyhold turned into a pitched battle then yes, obviously I'd stay out of it.

I will never, ever choose to go into a fight on purpose. Ever. No matter what anyone forces me to learn. I don't know how much clearer I need to be.

You want to get clearer? You might start by leaving the Inquisition. That'd send a pretty clear message.

It's not always about choice. You know that.

Look, no one's going to ask you if you want to fight or not. No one's going to wait for your permission. You might as well get trained up, then you can make all the choices you want then, 'cause you'll at least be ready for what comes after the part where you refuse.
