crystal.

FORM: Sending crystal!
SENDER: Margaux
RECIPIENT: Everyone
WHAT: An observation
WHEN: Current
WHERE: Skyhold
NOTES: Warnings TBA if necessary.

( the voice that comes through the crystals is young, light, high lilting orlesian; educated, but after the fact, someone whose speech is influenced by time spent around the upper-classes rather than someone who is identifiably one of them. the tone is thoughtful; )

There are an awful lot of Dalish, aren't there?

( like, any. )

Are they all one clan?

( gosh, they can probably hear this. )

Should they?

[ it's an honest question ]
samahl: (experienced)

[He enjoys hearing that confidence and certainty.]

Good.

[A pause] In a more serious note, did you have any questions about the Dalish here? I think everyone else is covering the basics.

Doesn't work for you? [She doesn't sound especially put out.] Very well. As one who was raised and trained to be a Keeper, I am founding my own clan this very moment. Every Dalish who was outclan a few seconds ago is now part of my clan, Clan...Las'hamin.

[A stealth joke for people who know elven well enough.]

They are, from my own experience. My mother is our leader, my brother, her apprentice. [ There's a touch of pride in her voice. Busts open wallet, let me tell you about my brother. ] And the others--blood relation or no, you grow up with them, side by side. Through all the awkwardness of adolescence, and sometimes, the awkwardness of adulthood. I'm close to many of the members of my clan, and miss them dearly.

[ Then, the warmth fades from her voice. ]

Still, there is always the choice to leave. Some choose it.

In all seriousness. Being outside Orlais, or exiled from it, doesn't make you a fake Orlesian. Think of it that way.

"margaux" "taller"

Maybe that's why they're here now. Just a little late.

[ meant for a joke, however flat the affect ]

Are there fake elves, then?

Yeah, that's not for me to say. I'm a qunari, not an elf or even Dalish. Being here at Skyhold is the most exposure I've had to their culture outside of a few brief trips.

An interesting thought; I hope there's some truth to it, given that the shard have pained their bearers. We do not yet know their long-term effects.

Why do you ask about the Dalish?
mythalenaste: (is it not our place to wonder)

[personal profile] mythalenaste 2017-03-09 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, of course all the legal things still hold. You lose the protection of the law and any property you had with it. People look at you funny. But you don't stop being who you are just because of that. You carry your country and culture with you even when your country and culture don't want you.
samahl: (oh yeah)

[personal profile] samahl 2017-03-09 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I see that many jumped in with their opinions on the subject.

[He's quiet for a moment, as he doesn't want to voice his own in such a public place]

I am Cyril, by the way. It's a pleasure to meet you.
mythalenaste: (on the waves out on the sea)

Yes and no. We're outside the laws of the Dalish. But if we find other clans, or found other clans, it's completely reversible. At any rate, it isn't a fallen state or anything to be ashamed of.
