.. Good morning. [ if the voice sounds a little nervous, it's because its owner is really nervous. this sure is a lot different from addressing his court. ] We are Maia of House Drazhar, and to.. get the question out of the way immediately, we are one person. Our native language is simply very formal.
[ if any of you were wondering suspiciously about the 'we'. he gets a lot of funny looks here. ]
We have a request, if it isn't impolite. At home, you see, our people are very different from the elves of this world, and so there's a great deal we still need to learn. We would be very interested in hearing more about both the Dalish and the.. forgive us, the term is 'city elves'? The.. way you live, your clans and communities and homes and beliefs. There is a bit of literature, of course, but it seems primarily to be written by human observers.
[ which, you know, is only so accurate or trustworthy, considering the racial tensions in this world. ]
We would be glad to hear anything that you wish to share, and we would also be happy to meet with you in person if you would prefer that instead. We have no desire to be insensitive or prying.
[ a beat, then a little shyly: ] Thank you for your time.

[ look, the fact is that thranduil is one of the first people he'd met here, he'd been nice to maia, and he's an elf. of course maia likes him. ]
.. Histories?

[ maia is the tiniest, most perfect plum and thranduil wants five. ]
Yes. They are not stories. If I was not alive for the events, my father may have been, and if not him, my grandfather.

[ the explanation earns a startled little noise. he'd entirely forgotten just how long-lived thranduil's people were. (and to think that at times, maia thinks his empire is old.) ]
We can hardly imagine.. How do you manage to remember so much? [ that was mostly a rhetorical question, though. as far as he's concerned, thranduil's people are capable of anything until further notice. ] Ah.. may we ask about your wife, then? Perhaps how you met her?

[ for more reasons than he can admit. oh, gwenaƫlle is happy he didn't die, he supposes, and galadriel cares in her own way, but no one here would come to greet him at the gates. no one since his son. it is... very nice, to know someone cares. it means more than he thought it would. ]
We were made for it, akin to the color of your eyes or the thickness of your hair. It is simply how we are. [ here, he pauses. he had offered maia anything, and he is young, and knows not what he asks. he's found, as of the last decade or two, that the pain fades with airing. he'll be reunited with her soon- every day passed is another closer. ]
We knew one another as children. I did not see her as one I might like to wed until we were much older. It was at a party, a diplomatic event where I was meant to be speaking for my father's house. I had not seen her in centuries. She was- magnificent. And then we spoke, and it was if all those years were mere minutes instead.

[ and he can assess for himself that thranduil is well. and once the other elf is rested up, maia has only about a dozen questions to ask him, things to discuss with him.. from an outsider's perspective, like maia's own.
the comment about his hair earns a short, somewhat startled little laugh. ] There are times that we wish that we'd been made a bit differently. [ that's true on many levels, but it's easier to joke about something silly and minor than dig at the root of that feeling. ] Our hair is nearly unmanageable on our own. [ too much curl, too long.
something about thranduil's tone sobers him for the next part, though. has he made a misstep, then..? he's not entirely certain-- the older elf is still speaking of her, but.. ] .. That sounds very romantic. Did-- Did you court her for very long..?

[ slower, now, as if he's taking a moment to settle into his chair. ] Half a year. We were-- impatient, but ultimately persuaded to observe niceties.
[ a prince was required to behave a certain way, and could not be ruled by his desires. ]
