This is Obi-Wan Kenobi. I apologize for the delay in doing so, but I'd like to make an announcement; I've been appointed as the liason for the Rifter population.

For this reason, if you have a concern about a particular Rifter which cannot be peacefully resolved on your own, or if any Rifter has need of information, or support, please don't hesitate to contact me. I know we may not seem like any kind of cohesive group, but you aren't alone. Please, try to remember that.

[He clears his throat, then and continues.]

As for the rest of you, I have a question. Nothing too serious, just a little... oh, call it a thought-exercise: I first heard this one as a child.

I'm afraid I couldn't opine, as I spent the entirety of my time in the Emprise du Lion without feeling in my extremities.

Assassins do skilled work. And often necessary, though I hope I won't offend you by saying I wish it wasn't.

[There is a pause, as if he has to take a moment to think, to confirm it-- no, that's correct. Antiva. The famous, infamous Antivan Crows.]

That's an admirable pursuit.

No. I grew up in a-- a temple complex. I've slept in houses, but not often. Jedi travel, we rarely have the luxury of a permanent residence, or more possessions than we can easily carry with us.

You might be right, though I think Orlesians treat such things as a national pastime-- or at least that is what I have been told. I am not so sure the Antivans do the same.

[Her tone shifts from thoughtful to pleased at his comment.]

I'd like to think so. Knowledge is one of the greatest weapons a person can possess.

No moreso than that all the berries in Thedas are foreign to me. But no more 'weird' than usual.

They're even better than I thought, Obi-Wan. It's a little weird, realizing that there's so much more out there than we have in Thedas, but a good weird? At any rate, now I'm hoping a little that I'll get to see some of these folk step out of a rift.

...though it'd be even harder to sell the 'not demons' angle when others see them.

That's what I'm afraid of, to be honest. Jedi are peacekeepers, but we are trained to defend ourselves against attacks. You've seen what happens when a Jedi lightsaber makes contact with steel?

[Plasma blades go through breastplates and sword-blades not quite as easily as through flesh, but the advantage is significant.]

It could be very ugly.

Hm...that might worth seeing the ambassador or her direct reports about. They could be made aware and...I don't know, try to help people calm down somehow, before things escalate? I'm no diplomat, I've no idea how they'd best go about it.

Not at all. There are many that would share that thought, I'm certain. It's not one that I would agree with, but I'd be out of a job were it true.

There are similarities there with my own experience. I've never had much in the way of possessions.

Man, don't I know it. I miss guns. And spaceships. And microwaves. And indoor plumbing. And high-tech armor with a sweet HUD. If we get enough brainiacs here, we could probably cobble together some basic modern tech, right? I mean...gunpowder. And electricity? Maybe we should start with steam power first.

Elvhenan. Arlathan was one of our cities. There were others, but their names have been lost to time, unfortunately. Maybe they'll be uncovered someday.

My people have lost much, and think by sharing our history that we'll somehow lose it too. I disagree. If we reveal more, it can only help humans understand us better, so they don't have to make up wild rumors to fill the gaps.

Information, as they say, has a way of almost wanting to be free. And knowing is almost always better than blind guesses.

[Elvhenan, he repeats to himself quietly, as if to be sure of remembering it.]

I wish I could offer my assistance on that count. Unfortunately, even if I could, my new position will be something of a drain on my time.

And speeders. I have nothing against horses, mind you, but it's hardly what you call efficient travel. Give me a vehicle, one with an engine.

You know, perhaps I could go for my weapon. I can't easily replace it, given the-- well, the technological limitations, of Thedas. But then, I'm rarely so far from it that I have to go back anywhere to get it.

No, it's a work of technology, though it'd be difficult to produce without a Jedi's skill. The alignment of the pieces has to be very precise, or you run into certain problems.

There is other work, for a skilled fighter, I'm sure. But your, ah... job, that's no business of mine. I don't mean to pry.

Technological limitations? What is your weapon?

[obi_wanmanshow]

It's a lightsaber, a Jedi weapon. It came through with me, when I arrived, if that gives you any indication for how well I keep ahold of it.

I've heard it mistaken for a Knight-enchanter's blade, if that helps you imagine it. But it's not the same thing, really.

Perhaps, though I would say I'm far more skilled in killing than fighting. Mmm, that's fine, I don't mind.
