Would someone be willing to look after my parrot and dracolisk for a while? The dracolisk must be exercised daily. Bastard... the parrot... tends to look after himself… but I'd like to ensure that he doesn’t cause too much trouble.

Actually, has anyone seen a blue parrot around lately? I'm unsure of his whereabouts. [...probably disrupting chantry services again, he's pretty sure.]

I’ll be willing to repay the favor, of course.

[ooc: feel free to have spotted the parrot swearing up a storm anywhere around skyhold!]

I'll check on Bastard, though I'm not keeping him overnight. That would do no one any good. But I suppose he ought to do more than yell at Cullen's soldiers all day.

He usually is, I can't stop that. I can only promise to mitigate the damage.

I appreciate it. At the very least, I'll owe you several drinks or... something more... for even attempting to divert him. Food helps.

She'll eat most anything... [Well. Standard dracolisk-food anyway. Between her and Bastard, he has quite the hungry pets on hand.] ...though she surprisingly has a sweet tooth.

If there's a favorite food of his, let me know. I'll try to keep that handy.

Bastard tends to forage on his own a lot, but I tend to keep plenty of nuts on hand to give him as a treat… or shut him up. Likewise, he’s fond of berries.

I can snag those for him. It's better than him harassing the kitchen staff, which I'm sure happens from time to time.

And yes, I take payment in drinks, but only when you're up to it.

Undoubtedly he does. He'll do anything for food. By now, I don't know of anyone he hasn't pestered.

Good. She's used to you by now, I'm sure... enough that she won't mind your presence. She's good around people she's already gotten to know.

Nice try, Kain. But I've learned not to piss off the healers, and I'd like to keep their goodwill for the next time I need it. You should try earning some for yourself, you know.

[He tried. Oh, how he tried. But unfortunate for Kain, the healers are on to him. He wants to blame Anders somehow. They've had a couple conversations about this sort of issue.]

I've yet to truly 'piss them off', perhaps get a stern warning or so... ah... but... truly, I've not done much to earn their wrath.

[Mostly because he physically can't do much at this point. It hurts to breathe and moving is just agony so he can't. But soon. SOON.]

It certainly doesn't sound like it right now. There's a difference between using that pain to your advantage in battle and being a dumbass outside it.

[Ignoring the fact he can't even move at this point.]

Well. [Maxwell tries not to sound amused; no, really, he does.] That explains Duke Parnell's claims that someone was following him yesterday calling him the "bastard son of a nug-humper" whenever his back was turned.

Oh, good, he's back to insulting the nobility again. Just what I like to hear. [Kain is sarcastic as he says this, but in a way, he sometimes feels like they really deserve a little shaking up every now and then. He sighs, a quiet groan as he shifts position, ow.] That sounds like Bastard's typical language. There's no end to it. At least nothing too troublesome happened as a result?

[That wasn't a soft chuckle.]

Luckily Parnell is as - tetchy as some. In fact, I think he was actually sort of impressed... He couldn't imagine how his stalker kept appearing and disappearing without a trace.

His attempts to catch the culprit had gotten quite elaborate by the end of it.

[HA! Ok, that thought cheers Kain up a bit despite his situation at the moment. Sometimes he really appreciates Bastard's attitude.]

That must have been a sight to see. Well worth it. At least it sounds like nothing truly catastrophic happened... I'd consider that more amusing than anything else.

I put all my Wicked Grace skills to use, yes. [The smile was clear in his voice.] But harmless as it was this time, I'm loath to imagine what happens when he decides to fancy someone less obliging.

Perhaps I could have a feeder set up somewhere? [Somewhere well away from the twitchy nobles.] Or something else that might keep him amused?

Oh? Remind me not to play that game with you, in that case. [Yeah, no, he doesn't want to lose money or clothes, thank you very much. He knows better than to sit down among skilled Wicked Grace players.] You're right, of course... this time may have been harmless, but I have the same concerns.

He enjoys food immensely. I'm surprised he's not weighted down when he flies, for all that he eats. The feeder may be a good idea. I would be willing to repay the favor... ugh... when able.

Don't worry, I've yet to leave anyone destitute. [A shake of his head, even though Kain couldn't see it.] And please, just rest, and get yourself well. That's all you need to worry about for now.

That's good to hear... [Still, he knows who he has to be wary of if it comes to one of those games someday. He sighs quietly.] I'm... trying. ...ugh... but it's hard to stay idle...

Perhaps we can have something set up for you too? [Light teasing.] I could have the feeder built near your beside, even, for all that feathered companionship you surely miss.

He doesn't seem too fond of lingering here. He needs to fly around, after all, and it's probably for the best that he doesn't annoy others around the tents. But believe it or not, I've missed his presence.

[His voice softened, gentled. Sympathetic.]

Well, you have my word I'll do what I can to keep him out of trouble, and make sure he doesn't end up stuffed and mounted before you're up and around again.

I don't intend to be stuck here long. [Intend being the important word there. But what he thinks and what the healers think are different things entirely.] But good, I'll owe you for doing me such a favor and putting up with his array of insults. At least he's fairly hard to catch, for those who might be... less tolerable.

It's something like having my own inspirational life-speaker. A cruel one, but certainly motivational.

....Besides, next time I feel like cursing the Grand High Something or Other of Does Anyone Really Care I can say it was the bird.

I can think of plenty of emotions he inspires.... but I'm so glad to hear that you're also coming to appreciate his antics.

[Kain laughs, which turns into more of a cough... but it's all totally worth it.] I'm so pleased that he'll be keeping these nobles on their toes, if nothing else. Good bird.

[And, if nothing else, hopefully he'll remember who fed him next time he's bored.]

[It's always worth a try. After all, Kain had learned early on that feeding the bird always helps him to settle down some. It provides a distraction if nothing else.]
